Celest seemed slightly confused at the offer J was making. Either Celest had never seen that much money before, or she was taken aback at J being able to offer that much for something without even batting an eye. While it may have seemed like a lot to Celest, it wasn’t that much to J. 500 Gil was only about one-eighth of her total money. In addition, that was her money on-hand. She hadn’t factored in how much she was going to get from her client for this sham of a job. In the end, though, Celest accepted the offer. She would have been a fool not to. Not because it wasn’t a good deal, but because J was only going to ask once. Had Celest said no, then J was going to finish the job the Chocobo’s started and just taken it for free. It was no skin off her bones if the girl died. J was going to get what she wanted, and nothing would get in her way from that. Celest made the smart decision. It would fill her pockets and prevent her from an untimely meeting with the Lifestream. Truthfully, J didn’t even need the X-Potion. However, J did know that they were extremely hard to find. No, J was thinking for the future. If there was a client in the future who wanted one, then it would be a pain and a hassle to get one. This way, she would have it on her if the situation came up. Of course, if that didn’t happen, she could always sell it again and get her money back. Either way, she’d get her money’s worth with this purchase. Anyway, with her job done and the side transaction completed as well, J had no more reason to stay at the farm. That was good news. J didn’t want to stay around any longer then she needed. She was starting to remember some of the bad memories from the last time she had to ride of one the damn birds. It was an experience that she would rather forget. “Damn birds,” J thought, banishing the memory into the back part of her mind, “I won’t be riding one of those filthy things again if I can help it.” Celest seemed to be done as well. She said her goodbyes and then vanished back into the Chocobo farm. “Bye.” J said plainly. She was done wasting time here. As soon as Celest left, J was gone too. They might meet in the future one day. Hopefully the girl wouldn’t be so much of a ditz if they did. Odds are that if they did meet again, it would be while J was working. J didn’t need a clumsy girl falling all over herself while she was working on a real job. It had taken her about two hours to make the walk from Kalm to the Chocobo farm. She estimated it would take her about that long to make it back. “Might as well call that annoyance of a client.” J thought. She pulled out her cell phone and called her client back. *Ring…Ring…Ring…Click* “Who is this?” The phone answered with a rude voice on the other side, “Who’s calling from a blocked number?” J’s eye twitched slightly from anger. “It’s J,” J hissed through her teeth, “You called me the other day. I’m calling to let you know that I’ve finished the job.” “Oh J!” The girl exclaimed, “Of course! So you have the feathers? Excellent. I hope those filthy birds suffered while you plucked their feathers.” “If they have to be around that girl longer, they probably did.” J thought. That was a personal thought though. “I’m not one of those birds,” J replied, “So I can’t guarantee that. What I can guarantee is that I’ll be at the drop site in about two hours. Do you have the money ready?” “Oh yes,” The client said, “I even asked Daddy for an advance in my allowance to pay for this. It’s well worth it though.” “Annoying little…” J grumbled in her mind. “Alright,” J said, “Then I’ll meet you at the drop site. Until then, J out.” J flipped her phone shut and resisted the urge to throw it into the sea. “Little bitch,” J muttered, “Wasting my time and my talents. She better pay well for this.” As J expected, it took her about two hours to make it to Kalm. Once she was there, it took her about five minutes to make her way to the local inn. J entered the establishment, and a small bell went started to ring. There was nobody at the front desk, which had a sign that read “back in fifteen minutes” and a few people in the lobby. They were going about their daily lives and weren’t paying her any mind. “Alright,” J thought, “Now where is this girl.” J’s thought was soon answered, as no more then thirty seconds later, the small bell on the door rang again. J turned around to see the only person the client could be. She was a girl about five inches smaller then J, and wearing the fluffiest pink dress that J had ever seen. She had the look of someone who never had to work a day in her life and figured that she would be able to get away by just using and inheriting daddy’s money. J immediately vowed to herself to keep going until she had enough money to put this girl to shame. J didn’t want to acknowledge that this girl existed, but she wanted her money. It was the fluffy girl who noticed her first. More specifically, she noticed the Chocobo feathers sticking out of J’s coat pocket. “You must be the hunter,” The girl said, “Alright. I don’t want to be here any longer then necessary.” “You and me both, sister.” J thought. “So here.” The girl pulled out an annoyingly small purse and pulled out a roll of Gil. “Catch.” She said, tossing the roll of Gil at J. J easily caught the money roll and pocketed it. “And here’s your…” J started before she was cut off. “I don’t want those filthy things,” The girl protested, “I just wanted you to pluck the things. Do with them what you want.” It took all of J’s willpower to not blast the girl right then and there. “As you wish.” J said calmly. She wanted this done as quickly as she could. Now that she had her money, this was done. “Until next time.” J said to her, and walked out the inn. As soon as she was outside, J removed the feathers from her pocket and tossed them into the wind. She didn’t need them. “Next time,” J thought to herself as she watched the feathers fly into the wind, “You better have a real job for me.” |
