Apocalypse (Lv4)

Everyone probably has a different idea on how stats work in the RPG. But it's really hard to role-play with someone who thinks 20 in Speed means much more than it actually does. Thankfully there will be this lovely thread that will break it down for everyone. Those of you who are fans of other RPGs I ran do know that higher numbers wont mean as much here. Before we get stated the explanations will be split into two Categories:
Below, there will be Ranks next to each number category giving a rough idea what numbers mean when you have a stat around that area. It will follow the D, C, B, A, S system with + and - to add more variety. 0-30 D- Stats- Stats wise you would be weak in this area. You would have trouble lifting up a 35 lb. Weight with both arms if your Strength was below 10 (Not for sure, just an example). You wouldn't be extremely flexible nor would you be all that smart. Skill- Combat wise, you would know how to defend against attacks with a basic block maneuver. You wouldn't have any skill in attacking quite yet since you don't really know how to. Computer wise you would know how to turn a computer on and type. Nothing more. 31-55 D Stats- Stats wise you would begin to show below average abilities. You can do things like slight back-bends, the splits if your Agility were here. Strength wise you could pump 35 lb. weights with one arm for a good while. Skill- You finally know how to strike at a person combat wise, but nothing fancy. Computer wise you know more about how the computer functions and understand that computers see things in a Black and White fashion. 56-85 D+ Stats- Your starting to show above-average abilities and can finally start standing out from people. You can do a back-flip by just jumping off the ground without any sort of trampoline. Your intelligence is starting to shine as well as your resistance to strikes from people. Nothing super noticeable, just slightly above the average person Skill- Blocking and striking have become much more natural to you. You're not anywhere near expert skill, but you can easily attack after blocking or block after attacking without having to think about it. It's becoming closer to muscle memory. Computers are becoming easier for you to understand. You almost understand them more than you do people. 86-125 C- Stats- Your body and mind are far above average. You can take more blows than most as well. Skill- Blocking and striking have become much more natural to you. You're not anywhere near expert skill, but you can easily attack after blocking or block after attacking without having to think about it. It's becoming closer to muscle memory. Computers are becoming easier for you to understand. You almost understand them more than you do people. 126 - 180 C Stats- You are starting to show inhuman abilities when compared to a person. You're able to lift things people normally shouldn't be able to lift but not with incredible ease. Your mind is able to take in things quicker and notice things better than most. Agility wise running up a twenty foot wall to the top is not hard for you to do. Skill- Fighting has become second nature to you, your body seems to begin to do it's on it's own without you having to think about it beforehand. Blocking, attacking and even dodging are all becoming fluid for you in every way. Computer wise your abilities with technology is outstanding. You're beginning to notice that you would prefer to have built a computer yourself. Not for the quality, but so you know it better. 181-230 C+ Stats- Your abilities are becoming quite monstrous. To achieve this state would send shock and horror into the eyes of those around you. You're able to lift a car above your head and throw it a few meters if you so choose. Your speed is becoming hard to follow for normal human eyes and your agility is allowing you to make no wasted movements. Your Intelligence shows that there is no end to your analytical abilities and you're body is beginning to take even the hardest of blows with ease. Skill- Your Skills are reaching Master status. There is little room for improvement beyond perfecting techniques that others could not dream to ever obtain. Computers are starting to be all that you know. You find that they are the most logical thing to you and you sometimes find yourself thinking like one time to time. 231-290 B - Stats- To this point in time, it is hard for you to hide your powers. Your strength can make it difficult to use normal everyday things without accidently breaking them. Your pace at walking is difficult to bear since you know you can move so much faster. Skill- Raising your skill in fighting any higher than this starts to become redundant. You're noticing that it's reaching a peek and the only need for it to increase is for improving techniques rather than your skill. Computers on the other hand get more advanced along with you yet you keep on top of the advancements regardless. 291-350 B Stats- It's beginning to be difficult for you to notice your own improvements since you have no one around your strength and abilities to compare to. You're so far above a normal person. There is less of a struggle for you when it comes to moving and lifting heavy objects. You are what many people would base a legend off of. Skill- Fighting skill wise, there is no real noted improvement. 351-400 B+ Stats- Speeds are far too fast for normal people to see much less keep up with. Your strength is becoming god-like and magical prowess is unrivaled. Skill- Fighting skill wise, there is no real noted improvement. Unmeasurable In the stat listings below, mesurement of power, strength, speed and movement is not possible. It's simply too much for human minds to comprehend and the chance of coming across someone who rivals you in this area is rare if not impossible. It will get to the point where your own character does not know the limits to their power unless they are pushed to it by someone stronger.
Now, with the above ranks kept in mind (Off of the character sheets) one can have an optional Free Form type of thread where they base their stats off of their letter ranking. This way there is no number crunching and everyone just writes based on their rank. People in the same general rank would be equals (Roughly). But, you and the person starting the thread have to both agree upon it. A simple question when starting a thread, "Free form or Stat Based?" would be all it takes. Dodge and Accuracy Let's get this covered before we go any further: Dodge = 1d(Speed) + Agility Melee Accuracy = 1d(Attack Speed) + Skill Ranged/Gun Accuracy = 1d(Agility) + Skill Magical Accuracy = 1d(Intelligence) + Casting The Skill is depending on what your using. Be it a Weapon (Use a Weapon Skill) or Hand to hand (Hand to Hand would be it). For details on Projectiles or more details on Magic or Melee see This Rule for more information. Do note that Speed is not always represented by your Speed stat. Melee Speed
Magic Speed
Note: When judging your Dodge against a projectile, you are dodging their AIM not the actual bullet firing at you. So overall the Accuracy system does not count for Projectiles. If your Dodge is higher than their Accuracy roll, you can simply move faster than they can aim at you. Throwing Speed When throwing a weapon it acts as a Projectile as well. But they function differently. So we will have to call it Projectile B. The system it will follow for Speed is: (Strength Stat + Speed Stat) /2. That will determine how fast the object thrown is moving. When it comes to damage it will be 1d(Strength) + Weapon Strength. After this is done, just follow the Accuracy system that works for all types of combat. Dodging and Hitting Anyways, to see if you are successful at hitting someone, you simply apply your Accuracy against their Dodge (If they attempt to dodge). Do know that just because you can dodge, it doesn't mean you always will. This is an idealistic example. Many things can come into play and prevent you from dodging. This is why there is a dice system to balance things out. If Dodge > Accuracy by at least 20% you can successfully dodge the attack. EX: If your Dodge is 50 you can dodge anything with an Accuracy of 40. An easy way to determine the 20% of your dodge is to take 10% and double it. An easy way to do that is to divide it by 10 (If it's 50 it would be 5). Hell, if that isn't easy enough for you, just drop the last number (If your dodge is above 9). That way if your Dodge is 56 10% will be 5 and 20% will be 10. You can do it that way for simplicity sake if you so wish. Now, if their Accuracy (or in some cases, Speed) is within 20% you wouldn't be able to dodge it entirely. But it wont be a direct hit to their intended location. This means any attacks with unique effects upon impact wont work (Outside of Status Ailments). So if your Dodge is within 20% of their Accuracy and you attempt to dodge (You fail though) you will lower the damage by 20%. Blocking Blocking is very simple, if you can dodge then you can block. One might ask, "Why would I choose to block?" well, that's because blocking doesn't reduce your dodge. So you can choose to block the first few attacks and dodge the rest if you are able to. Now, blocking only reduces damage, it doesn't null it out or avoid it. How it reduces damage depends on how you block. Currently, unless through a technique of some sort, you can only block with a weapon (Non Projectile) and hand to hand. It is simply your Strength + Weapon and/or Armor Strength (If Applicable). Do remember that Endurance shaves damage from Physical attacks and Spirit shaves damage from Magical attacks. Blocking cannot do the following:
Do know that if you are blocking with armor (Shield, Gauntlets, etc.) it can block any of the above things, including bullets. Note that the material type effects blocking. Now, when you block, you simply reduce the damage taken. You can sometimes null the damage entirely if your Strength or weapon/armor is powerful enough. It reduces it by your BLOCK which is:
OR
Do note that armor is only applicable if it covers the hands (Like Gauntlets) or is a shield. Weapons only are added if you block with that weapon. You can block with both a weapon and armor under certain circumstances. If the armor you are 'blocking with' is not some form of shield or Gauntlets where you apply your own strength to the blocking, then take the Strength stat out of the equation. If one is blocking only with theirs hands, then it blocks purely with the Strength stat; but once again, you cannot block bullets, spells or weapons with your hands. Review Let's do a small review for those who didn't get it:
Easy, right? If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the Questions, Suggestions, etc. forum. Edited by Takeru, Feb 17 2010, 08:02 PM.
