A days walk was how long it took to get to the area. It was bright outside and there was little movement anywhere. In fact, one of the only things moving still was a young girl named Celest, dragging herself along the rolling green fields. She was not used to such a long and arduous walk, especially now with all the things she has accumulated over the past few days. She now has a sword, a bag, a Materia, Money, her Phone and a strange bottle she found on her way here. She had seen it before advertised in a magazine. It was something called an "X-Potion" that had magical healing properties. She was hoping she could sell it for a pretty penny. "I... think I see something," Celest said as she began to see a small ranch in the distance. It was becoming more visible the closer she got to it, which brought a wide grin to her face. "A bed!! A soft cozy bed is all I want... please let there be one!" Celest said as a burst of energy suddenly over-came her body. She began to run towards the ranch in the distance as fast as she could, wanting to set eyes on a bed for her to take a nap in. "Kweh...?" a sound echoed from the air just a few feet away from Celest, causing her to stop moving entirely. The hairs on her neck stood up from the loud cry from some creature. What awful thing could create such a sound? Celest thought to herself as she slowly turned her head for a large blob of Yellow to engulf her vision. What... is... it? Celest thought to herself as she took a step back to see just what it is. "It's it!" a voice cried from behind the yellow blob. "That is definitely the Green I'm lookin' fer," the voice cried again, suddenly becoming part of the yellow blob. The yellow blob with a child riding it turned to the side revealing a giant bird with strange feet. "AH!" Celest screamed as she ducked down. "I don't want to die!" Celest screamed again, scared for her life before what she thought was a monster. "Die...?" the boy on the Chocobo said. "Ma'am, you alright?" he asked once more to the petrified Celest. "Umm," Celest paused, looking up from her hands. "Yes... I thought you were a monsters, I'm sorry," Celest said standing up, blushing. "Haha! And here you are with a sword too, scared of a monster," the boy laughed to himself. "You never seen a Chocobo before?" the boy asked in his suddenly apparent country voice. "I'll take yer hesitation as a no. That means yer city folk with a fat wallet," the boy laughed to himself, not allowing Celest a chance to talk. "Minus the fat wallet part..." Celest mumbled to herself. "Is that Ranch for Chocobos..?" Celest asked the boy before her with a curious look on her face. "Yeah. People come 'n rent 'em to cross the Swamp. Can't without 'em. There's this nasty giant snake that can swallow you whole if yer not careful," the boy said with a smirk on his face. "You thinkin' bout crossin'?" the boy asked Celest, scratching his chin. "I'd like to get to Junon, but... that snake sounds icky. Wait! I can rent a Chocobo Right!!" Celest said with a large grin on her face. "Yeah. But you said you ain't got a fat wallet. Don't think you can afford one," the boy said, not knowing that Celest actually could afford to rent four if she wanted to. "Tell ya what, I'll let ya Work at the farm for a bit to earn one. That'd work out fine for the both of us, don't cha think?" the boy said with a smile on his face. He reached his hand out to Celest, who grabbed on tightly, being pulled onto the Chocobo with him. "Giddy-up!" he said, patting his foot against the Chocobo. With a loud, "Kweh" the Chocobo was off towards the Ranch. Less than two minutes later, they arrived at the Ranch. Celest was holding onto the boy for dear life. The boy smiled to himself as he pried her arms from his waist, "We're here." The two hopped off of the Chocobo, heading into the stable looking structure. "I have some work for you here, it isn't easy mind you. But it'll pay for itself. Trust me!" the boy said with a smirk, leaving Celest standing by the stables by herself. "I'll be back, I have to talk to my pop 'bout something real fast," the boy said, running off to the small house next to the barn. |

*Ring…Ring…Ring…Click* “J here.” J said, answering her phone in her usual manner. “So this is the great hunter J?” The voice on the other line said. It was female, and one she hadn’t heard before. She could tell by the slightly off-put tone that this was something that the client was loathing to do. “I said that I was J when I answered,” J replied, slightly annoyed at the tone she was being addressed as, “So what do you need?” “Don’t take that tone with me!” The voice said, “If you knew who I was, you would show me some respect!” J was getting tired of this. This client was obviously some kind of daddy’s girl who that that because her parents were important, that she thought she was as well. “I don’t have time for this,” J said, “If you don’t have a need for my services, then don’t call this number again.” “Wait!” The voice shouted, “Okay, okay. So maybe I was a little hasty. Look, I do have a need for your services, so don’t hang up.” “Then spit it out already,” J said, “Time is money.” “Okay,” The girl said, “You do know about that Chocobo farm that’s a bit away from Kalm that near the Zolam Swamp, right?” “I’m aware of such a place, yes.” J said. Although much of J’s work these days had her in Midgar, she wasn’t a native. She just went to where the money was. If suddenly her services were more needed in Junon or Wutai, she would find herself there. “Ok,” She said, “Well let me tell you the story. I was at the farm the other day, and I saw the Chocobo’s they had. And then one of those filthy birds pecked at me when I tried to touch it!” This was sounding more and more like a job a spoiled girl would want. “So, now I want revenge. Outside the barn and stables, they have a small field where they let the Chocobo’s graze. I want you to steal a tail feather from five different Chocobo’s. Odds would say that you would get the one that got me.” J was silent for a moment. This, by far, was the most ridiculous job that she had ever heard. Still, J loved her money. “Alright,” J said, “Where do you want to meet up so I can deliver the goods?” “Easy,” The girl said, “We’ll meet at the Inn in Kalm. I can pay you there and then collect my feathers.” “Alright,” J said, “The Inn in Kalm. I’ll call you when the job is complete. J out.” And then she hung up the phone. “Spoiled brat,” J thought, “Well, she’s probably rich, if she can waste her time on things like that.” That was a day ago. It had taken J the better part of that day to get out of Midgar and get to Kalm. Today was spent making her way to the Chocobo farm. She had been there once before. As she remembered, the one she had to use to cross the swamp the last few times was loud. “Annoying birds,” J thought as she made her way to the farm, “I really don’t like riding those things. Someone really needs to do something about that swamps snake problem. A few minutes later, J caught sight of the Chocobo farm. For being a necessary place needed for crossing the swamp, it stuck out rather well. It could make a person wonder that if they picked that location for their farm for a reason. They probably had a pretty good racket going, with all the travelers having to pay them to cross the swamp. They probably made more then J did, and that’s saying something. “Alright,” J said, as she grew closer to the outside pen, “Might as well get started. Lousy feather plucking.” She muttered under her breath. She still thought this was a waste of her talents, but she wasn’t going to complain about getting paid.

"Alright miss! I got some work for ya!!" the young farm-hand said to Celest as he walked back with what looked like a giant brush. The problem with the brush is it was about as large as a Buster Sword but made of wood. The flat end of it had what looked like bristles for a brush on it, but they were hardened. "This here is like a Brush, be gentle with it. It gets any parasites that may be on the Chocobo off. It isn't good for business for Customers to get a tick from our Chocobo when they're crossin' the swamp," the farm-hand said again handing Celest the large brush. Celest stumbled back a couple of steps with the giant brush in her hand. Too much, stuff.. need to drop something, Celest thought to herself as she set her sword down on the ground along with the brush. She then took the bag around her shoulder off and set that on the ground. The bag, not having any foundation on the bottom, fell on it's side with the top opening revealing the contents inside. "Umm.. do you have a rope?" Celest asked the boy. He laughed as he pulled one out of his back pocket. "You... carry a rope on you?" Celest asked him. "Yea! Never know when you'll need it!" the farm-hand said to Celest after handing her the rope. Celest noted his advice about rope and began to tie her sword to her waist so it can be pulled out of the sheath easily. "Do you mind keeping an eye on my bag, I can't carry everything at once, with the brush, too heavy," Celest said with a smile. The farm-hand simply nodded as he leaned against the wall with a piece of straw in his mouth as Celest darted off towards the Chocobos to begin brushing the giant birds. "Please don't kill me, please don't kill me, please don't kill me," Celest said to herself as she approached one of the birds. Celest had her eyes closed as she approached the giant bird until she felt she was close enough. She opened one eye to the giant bird afraid it was readying to attack her. "Kewh?" the Chocobo sounded as it lifted it's head from the ground where it was feeding on some Choco-feed. The Chocobo looked at Celest oddly and noted the brush. It then did what was an equivalent of a Chocobo smile and turned so it would be easier for her to brush them. "This.. might be easier than I thought..." Celest said to herself as she began to brush the Chocobo with the giant brush of anti-parasite-ness.

As J grew closer towards the Chocobo farm, she noticed that there ten of the giant birds currently outside in the pen. J’s instructions were for a single tail feather from five of them. The client thought that would be enough to ensure that she got her vengeance against a specific one. Apparently, in addition to being bad with animals, the client was bad with numbers as well. The odds weren’t that she’d get her revenge against the correct Chocobo, the odds were good that an innocent bird would find itself missing a tail feather. Oh well. Not that J cared. The client may, but it wasn’t J’s job to care. What J did care about was the fact that there were two people in the pen as well, one male and one female. From the distance, the male looked to be the traditional farm-hand type. He was the type that has a rustic countryside look that could only be brought about by having one’s family tree go in a straight line. The female looked like she got into a royal rumble with a group of hobos for her outfit, and managed to get away with only the third best ensemble. The most prominent feature on the girl was the very large brush she was holding. She was using it to brush the birds, which appeared to give the male a bit of amusement. He started to say something, which J couldn’t make out all of. She managed to catch bits and pieces of what was said. She managed to catch “Good for a city girl” rather clearly. Shortly after saying that, the male started to head back towards the buildings. She was getting closer and managed to catch more of what he said, saying that he would “Be back after about an hour to check up on her.” After that, he disappeared into the barn, leaving the girl with the birds. “Alright,” J thought, “Now it’s just her.” Soon, J arrived at the perimeter of the pen. Still, the question of how to deal with the girl was a pressing one. Judging by how the country boy was acting and by what J overheard, it was obvious that the girl wasn’t a normal worker at the farm. The fact the she was working meant that either she was a new hire and this was her first day, or she was a traveler who wanted to get across the swamp and couldn’t afford the trip. That would mean that she was working here to work up enough to rent of the Chocobos. “Hmmm…” J’s thought process continued, “If that’s it, then I might be able to use her. It might cost a bit, but judging by how this client is, I’m certain I’ll more then make it up.” “You there,” J said to the girl in the pen, “Incorrectly dressed for work such as this female. What on earth are you doing and what are you doing here?” Of course, J had already figured out the most probable reasons of what she was doing there. This conversation was just a precursor for J to finish her job. Of course, if she was wrong by chance, then she would just have to come up with a different plan of action. |

Celest was mindlessly attending to her task when a voice called out to her. It was an unfamiliar voice. She had never heard this voice before and couldn't place her finger on who it belonged to. Who, is this..? Celest thought to herself as she turned around slightly, with the large brush in her hand still to see who was calling out to her. It was then that a person, whose gender she couldn't tell, was standing within sight. She was oddly dressed, far more out of place than Celest was. In fact, the girl came off as intimidating if Celest were to try to describe it. "Who... me?" Celest asked aloud to the young girl who had quite the outfit on. Without allowing her the chance to answer Celest's Rhetorical question she quickly provided an answer, "I am..." Celest shook her head, trying to get her thoughts on track. "I'm just cleaning the Chocobos here so I can cross the swamp. They said I most likely didn't have enough money to rent one so I'm working the money off," Celest said with a bright and cheery smile on her face. She looked at her hands which was gripping the brush. She had felt a strange crawling sensation on her hand which immediately drew her attention to her hand. "A... BUG!?" Celest shouted at the top of her voice as she immediately dropped the brush flinging her hand in a very prissy manner. A tick that was on one of the Chocobos had managed its way onto her hand. If it were something less intimidating it probably wouldn't have been a problem. But ticks are nasty looking and Chocobo ticks are quite large compared to normal ones. That and their bodies are the color of pus, giving them quite the gross look. Celest was within all reason to freak out. "Is... it gone?" Celest said with one leg in the air as she balanced on one foot, looking around. "Okay, good. It's not on me anymore," Celest said with a faint smile as she ran the back of her hand across her forehead to swat the sweat away. "Sorry about that, I don't like blood sucking thingies on me. It's kind of creepy," Celest said with her almost clichè smile. "Was there something you needed... Mam-Sir-Mis... person?" Celest asked with a smile trying not to be rude. She couldn't tell the persons gender on first glance and at the distance they were at. |

J said nothing as she listened to the girl talk. Whoever she was, J’s thought was spot on. This girl was a traveler who couldn’t afford the cost of renting a Chocobo across the swamp, and she was working it off. Although, J noticed that there was something strange about the way that the girl phrased that sentence. It sounded like she was working off a debt that she didn’t need to pay in the first place. Did this girl have enough money? Oh well, that wasn’t really that important. If she was working unnecessarily, then that meant that she must have been happy to help for some reason. There was also no response from J as the girl had a mild freak-out at a bug on her hand. Granted, it was a rather large bug. However, J wouldn’t be caught dead embarrassing herself in that sort of manner. What didn’t help was that the girl in the pen flung her hand around wildly to rid herself of the bug. The flailing had succeeded in getting the bug off of her hand, and it had also succeeded in flinging it right towards with J. The last thing that J needed was a large Chocobo bug flying onto her. Therefore, as soon as J saw the offending arachnid come flying in her direction, she lifted her left arm up and shot the tick right out of the air. It exploded with a messy squish noise. Bug goo went everywhere. Fortunately, none of the tick goo got on J, which kept her mood up as she lowered her weapon. The girl kept an odd position up as she searched for the bug. “Don’t worry,” J said, “It’s gone.” The girl then removed the sweat from her brow, before she returned to a semi-helpful state. She wanted to know if she could help J with anything, although she seemed to be having a problem with gender roles. “It’s J,” J said to her, “Call me J. And yes, there is something I need.” J looked at over at some of the Chocobos. “If you were here, then maybe you can help. I’m currently on an assignment for one of the locals in Kalm,” J was only giving half of the truth in that sentence, “They’re in need of a tail feather from five different Chocobos for a project of theirs. However, due to circumstances beyond their control, they couldn’t come here themselves, so they hired me. So,” J finished, “Do you think you can help me with that, seeing as you’re working here at the moment, Miss…” J trailed off slightly. Truthfully, she didn’t care who this girl was. However, for her false friendly act, she would need to seem personable, friendly, and helpful. Of course, she would get the feathers anyway, even if the girl didn’t help. J never let an assignment go unfinished. Edited by Bag o Bones, Jan 17 2009, 01:09 AM.

"Miss…” J paused. "Celest!!" Celest shouted almost too loud with a big smile on her face. She ducked down after shouting nearly too loud as if she hurt her own ears. Her face had an expression of slight pain on it with both eyes closed. Her left eye opened slowly with a strange smile on her face. It wasn't so much of a smile as her trying hard to hide a smile but it is apparent regardless. "Celest Nameway," Celest said, much more calm than she was before. "And I'd be happy to help you," She said as she stood up straight looking at the large brush in her hand. "Allow me to grab my things really quick, I think it'd be better if I moved them in by sight," Celest said, stabbing the handle of the large brush into the ground so that it stood straight up. One could easily use it as a marker to remember their location in the pool of Chocobo. Celest darted towards her bag on the other side of the fence as quick as possible. She was too small to hop over the top so she simply went through the hole in the middle of the fence. It was quick and easy for someone as small as her. This lady is kind of cool, I hope she'll be my friend, Celest thought to herself as she grabbed her things and began to run back towards J with a near prance. The sword she had tied to her like a Samurai flopped along her side in a painful manner each time she took a step at her running pace. It was because there was only one thing holding it in place and that was at the hip. I hope this doesn't bruise... Celest thought as she got closer to J with all of her belongings. "Ooph!!" Celest grunted as she tripped over her own feet launching her bag out of her hands. The brown bag slid across the ground with the top open. All of her belongings slid out from the open part of her bag. A cell phone, what looked to be a strange metal contraption and a large bottle that looked really expensive all slid on the grass at least a foot away from the bag. "Ow... that hurt..." Celest said with one eye closed as she scratched at her head. "I think I scraped my knee," Celest said in a cute voice as she picked herself up from the ground. "Oh no! My stuff!" Celest said as she scrambled to it and began to place it into her bag. Celest let out a slight sigh as she placed it all in her bag and said, "Okay... let's get down to it!" |

J gave a slight smile. “Perfect,” She thought, “Things are going exactly as planned. Why should I have to waste all of my talents on a job such as this? I can make her do most of the hard work. See seems more then eager to help.” Even though Celest seemed to causer herself pain by saying her own name, a good and eager lackey was always welcome. “Thanks for your help.” J said, hiding her smile. Before she could start, however, Celest said she needed to grab her belongings from elsewhere. “That’s fine,” J said, “Take your time.” The girl then made her way through the Chocobos to get her things. “I’ll still be here.” Soon, J was alone at the fence with the Chocobos. One of the large yellow birds walked up close to J. “Wark?” It warked. It was almost as if it was asking her something. Of course, if J could speak Chocobo, she would know. But, she couldn’t. Still, even if she could, she probably wouldn’t have much to say to a large bird. “Don’t you have a dungeon you need to be getting lost in?” J said dismissively to the large bird. “Wark!” The Chocobo said in a tone that seemed to signify surprise. “This is all because one of you pecked at some rich bitch that probably had it coming.” J answered the bird. “Wark?” The Chocobo warked again. “I don’t care if it was you or a different one of you birds,” J said, “A job’s a job. She wants tail feathers, so I have to waste my time and talents to get them.” “Wark.” The Chocobo warked once more. “Oh, go get eaten by the Midgar Zolam.” J said, ending the conversation with a snap. “Wark!” The Chocobo replied before walking away. A loud “Ooph!” soon broke the silence of the farm. “She’s back.” J thought, before turning to the location of the sound. J had turned just in time to see Celest trip over her own feet and launch her bag into the air. The trip the Celest had taken this fall ended up spilling the contents of her bag all over the ground. If J had anything that seemed like a sense of humor, she probably would have laughed at the misfortune brought upon the girl. But, J didn’t, so Celest was saved that embarrassment. Celest scrambled for a moment to collect her things once she got back to her feet. From J’s position, she was able to see everything that fell out of her bag. Celest didn’t seem to have anything worth carrying around, aside from her phone. J was about to write Celest’s belongings off, which a bottle caught her eye. “It…can’t be…” J thought, her face betraying the slightest bit of surprise, “Is that…? It is! Where did a girl like that get an X-Potion?!” J’s temporary shock over the bottle soon passed. “Eyes on the prize,” J thought as Celest regained her belongings, “You can get that from her later. Legally, if need be. Right now you have a job to do.” Celest soon recovered all of her belongings, and was ready to begin. “Okay,” J said, returning to her fake helpful persona, “Thanks again for your help. Now, you seem to be more familiar with these Chocobos, so perhaps you can get started, and I can follow your lead?” |

"Right! I'll get start... wait," Celest stopped for a moment, placing a single finger on her chin. "What was it we're doing again?" Celest said with a smile as she tilted her head to her side with a dumbfounded look on her face. "OH YEAH!!" Celest shouted as she placed her bag on her shoulder as she walked over to the Chocobo closest to her from behind. She seemed to walk carefully as if she were a tiger pouncing on it's prey. "It's okay Mr. Choco... I wont hurt you. I just want a single feather," Celest said placing a single hand on the Chocobo's backside with the other reaching up towards a random tail-feather on the bird. "Wark...?" the Chocobo questioned Celest as she gripped the feather lightly. She held it tight enough to keep a grip, but not enough for the Chocobo to notice. "AHH!!! GIRABABABABHAHABAHABHAB!!!" Celest shouted randomly at the Chocobo while hitting at it's back-side with her other hand. This startled the Chocobo, causing it to run off without the tail-feather she was holding on with her hand. Celest turned to J with a wide smile on her face, holding a single large Chocobo feather from the Chocobo in between her fingers. "One Chocobo Feather. I didn't have to pull either and the Chocobo wont notice until it's too late either," Celest said holding the feather out to J, indicating that she wanted J to take the feather from her. Celest was a clever girl despite how ditzy she comes off as. She always had fun and easy ways to get things done causing as little harm to people and creatures as possible. She imagined pulling a feather out was like pulling out some hair. It only hurt for a little bit, but if you weren't thinking about it you wont even notice it. It was probably her girl lifestyle that made her realize this. Something J probably isn't extremely familiar with. |

J watched as Celest overenthusiastically went about the assignment that she had been given. The girl started off quiet and calm. That ended up being a ploy to lure one of the giant birds into a false sense of security. As soon as Celest had a feather in her grasp, she suddenly acted as if she was possessed by a mad-woman, and then she slapped Chocobo. This caused it to run off in a hurried frenzy, but it did the job. Celest held one Chocobo tail feather in her hand. “Impressive,” J said, taking the feather from Celest as soon as her explanation was ended, “Quite impressive.” J didn’t have a pocket large enough to hold a feather entirely. So, J had to settle for having it poke out of one of her side pockets. It was quite ridiculous looking, but the look was only temporary. Still, having the two of them doing J’s work was going to make things go much easier. “Then I can get that item off her,” J thought, “Hopefully, she doesn’t have a clue as to what it’s worth.” Still, getting the X-Potion off the girl would come later. Right now, she had a job to do. At about that moment, two Chocobos walked past J’s location. Thinking quickly, J reached out and grabbed a tail feather from both of them. “Wark?” The two birds questioned at once. “If this way is a problem,” J said, “I assure you that I can think of a much more painful way to do this.” As if to drive the point home, a gleam of sunlight reflected of her bracelet gun. “Wark!” The two birds exclaimed, before they ran away from J, leaving the tail feathers she had grabbed behind in her hand. “And that’s two more.” J said, placing those two in the same pocket, “Now just two more to go.” |

"Alright! I can get the next two," Celest said as she nearly pranced towards two Chocobo who were eating at some bugs on the ground with their backs turned to Celest. "Be easy Mr. and Mrs. Chocos. I promise to be gentle," Celest said with a calm voice. Her hands gripped onto one feather on each of the Chocobos with a firm yet gentle grip. Celest was preparing her yell once again when something caught her eye; the sun. Celest inhaled in a jerking motion once, twice and finally a third time with a disgruntled look on her face. She looked as if something painful was taking part in between her eyes on the inside. Oh no, I'm going to... I'm going to... Celest thought to herself. With that, Celest let out a loud, "Achoo!" as her upper body was flung forward with her hands, pulling the feathers out from both Chocobos at the same time. "Uh oh..." Celest said as she rubbed her nose with a Chocobo feather in her hand. The two Chocobo lifted their heads up, looking at Celest with a rather angry look in their eyes. "Nice... Mr. and Mrs. Choco," Celest said under her breath as she began to take a step backwards from them. With each step Celest took away from them, they took a step towards her in an hostile manner. I'm about to be Chocobo feed... Celest thought to herself as she turned around, dashing away from the birds. Thankfully Celest had the decency enough to not lead them towards J. Instead, Celest ran towards one of the fences, gripping the feathers for dear life, as if they would boost her speed. The Chocobos chased Celest with far superior speed, pecking at her back and shoulders with a terribly painful force. Celest kept running shouting in cliched grunts that indicate the person is in pain. She was within ten feet of the fence, her haven from this pain when Celest's foot met an unfortunately placed dip in the ground. "I'm gonna die..." Celest thought to herself as she was falling from her running position. "I really... really am going to--" Celest was cut off from a loud humming noise as her body began to glow a bright purple. The light and sound frightened the Chocobos causing them to turn tail and run in the other direction. Celest on the other hand, vanished from thin air with the light looking as if it had just been absorbed into a tiny black hole that couldn't be seen due to it's tiny size. She was gone and so was the humming sound. There was silence all around the Chocobo ranch except for two feet behind J. A slight whimpering could be heard behind her for there sat Celest with her knees tucked into her chest as she looked around confused as to what was going on. Blood was running down her back from where the Chocobos attacked her but the wounds were not deep, simple scratches. Celest gripped onto the two feathers with her hands tightly, as if they were a safe haven of some kind. A loud sigh exhaled from her mouth as Celest looked up at J before she said, "Well... I think I got them..." Celest simply smiled weakly as she reached her hand out to Celest with both feathers in her hand. |

J’s plan was going swimmingly. At least it was, before Celest almost died on her. The girl had decided to finish the job and grab the last two feathers herself. J was alright with that. The less that J had to do for this bungle of a job she had taken, the better. The fact that she was here spoke more for her love of money then her desire to help clients. Still, J didn’t like it when her talents were wasted, and this job was undoubtedly a waste of her talents. “If she ever calls for a job again,” J thought as she watched Celest run for her life from angry Chocobos, “I’m going to charge her extra.” Personally, J didn’t care if the girl was beaten or attacked by these birds. If she fell, then it was just another step added that J was going to have to deal with. So, J watched silently as Celest was chased and pecked by the large angry birds. It was another situation where if she had a sense of humor, she would be laughing. Fortunately for Celest’s ego, J didn’t. It just became another situation for J to deal with if things went sour. Suddenly, Celest vanished in a purple glow. For only a slight moment, J’s face betrayed the slightest bit of surprise. J quickly recovered, though, as she heard the slight sound of whimpering behind her. J turned her head and saw that Celest had appeared behind her. The girl was practically in a fetal position, except she was sitting down and not on her side. J noticed that the girl still had the feathers firmly clutched in her hands. “And that’s five.” J thought. J turned around to face the obviously confused girl. Celest was offering the Chocobo feathers to J, which she readily accepted and pocketed. “That’s it then,” J said to Celest, “That’s everything I needed. Thanks for your help.” J looked at the girl still on the ground. “This is my chance,” She thought, “I just need to seal the deal.” “Although,” J said, “You look like you went though hell. Now, you did do this for my benefit, so I feel that I need to repay you somehow.” Of course, J didn’t really feel that way. She still had that X-Potion to get off the girl, and it was important to maintain the illusion. J moved her hand into her coat and into one of the inner pockets of her coat. She pulled out a 100 Gil note. “This will cover the cost of renting the Chocobo. It’s the least I can do for your help in this assignment. However…” J trailed off slightly, “I did see that you had a X-Potion when all the things in your bag flew everywhere. I’ve actually been looking for one of those for a while now.” J fanned her fingers out, and there were now five 100 Gil notes. “I’ll give you four hundred Gil for it. That’s 500 Gil altogether.” J gave Celest a slightly icy look. It was almost as if she was daring Celest to turn down her generous offer. For those who know J and her money, they would realize that it really was. “So,” J said, “Do we have a deal?” |

Celest was dazed, almost too dazed to truly grasp what was going on. All she knew was that J was now holding out five-hundred Gil in front of her, offering it to her for that X-Potion she found earlier today. As much as that potion would heal my wounds, I think the money would be better. Wounds will heal, but money doesn't come by me easily. This would easily help me get my wings! Celest thought to herself as she nodded her head, taking out the X-Potion she had in her bag. Celest carefully examined the potion to make sure that there was no damage to it. "It's in perfect condition, despite me being knocked around," Celest said with a weak smile, handing it out with one hand and taking the money with the other. Celest froze for a moment, holding the Gil with both hands. She couldn't even think straight with all that money in front of her. Wow, there's so much. That plus the amount I already had is... a lot of money!! Celest thought to herself once more. A much stronger smile formed on her face as a metaphorical green filled her eyes. She pulled out her money pouch which was in her bag, placing the Gil in there. "It was... umm.. an honor doing business with you Miss J," Celest said, picking herself up off of the ground. Celest didn't even think to stand up to trade the potion with J, sitting down during the entire transaction. "I hope that we... err... have future business with each other," Celest said, trying to sound as professional as possible. She sort of respected J now, seeing how she was able to hand out so much money with little worry. "I assume you are a buzy person, so I will... uhh... see you later?" Celest said walking backwards towards the fence closest to the Barn where the farm-boy was. Celest was eager to get across that swamp so that she could get to Junon and buy her way across the large gaping waters. "Bye!!" Celest shouted before turning around and running towards the Barn. "I hope he didn't notice any of the noise I made from that small side-job," Celest said aloud to herself as she hopped the fence almost with ease. When she didn't have her mind set to a task, she seemed to do perfectly fine at it. If she were to try and jump the fence while thinking about it, she probably would have fallen flat on her face. Celest found her way inside the barn, looking for the farm-hand who had gotten her into the mess of cleaning Chocobo to begin with. Celest sighed to herself, not being able to find the small boy. Celest snapped her fingers before saying, "Where did he go? He said he'd be right here," "Who... me?" a voice called from within a tall pile of hay. "Wha...?" Celest said to herself as she looked at what might be haunted hay. Her right hand slowly reached towards her sword as she eyed the possibly haunted hay pile. "Okay, who are you and where's the boy from earlier?" "What..? I am the boy, I fell in the hay when I was taking a nap on top of it. Mind helping me out?" the boy said from within the hay pile. "OH! Yea, I'll help you," Celest said as she reached in, grabbing the hands of the young boy. She pulled as hard as she could, popping the boy right out of the pile. The boy fell on his bottom, thankfully his pants and pockets were stuffed with hay, cushioning his fall. "I finished the job, I just came to say that--" Celest began to say, before she was cut off by the boy. "Good God!? What happened to you, you're bleeding!!" the boy shouted. "Oh, some of the Chocobo attacked me while I was--" Celest tried to say before she was cut off once again. "Blimey!! You should have called for help!" the boy shouted again. "If anyone catches word of this... we'll get a bad reputation," the boy said under his breath as he turned his back to Celest. "I got it!" he shouted as he pulled out a small pouch from his overalls. He opened it up, flipping through Gil before he handed Celest a pile of it that she didn't bother to count. "Here, this will cover the job you did. I deducted the cost for renting a Chocobo from it already... umm, Good Job!" the boy said, hoping the girl wouldn't say anything about her wounds to anyone. "Wow! Thanks!!" Celest said, taking the Gil and placing it in her rapidly increasing money bag. "Just... don't tell anyone that you worked here. I don't want people to think they can work here anytime they please, catch me?" the boy said with a smile. "Umm... Sure?" Celest said with an awkward smile. "Come, I know which Chocobo to let you use. He's my personal Chocobo and has always treated me right!" the boy said, before opening a barn door just about five feet from him. There stood a tall bright yellow Chocobo with a bell around it's neck tied onto him with a rope. "His name is Mr. Zippy cause he's real fast-like!" "That's... nice," Celest said in an awkward tone of voice. "Well, get to it and try to be safe!" the boy said before helping Celest onto the Chocobo and sending her off towards the Zolem swamp where she'd go through the cave. After that she'd be on her way to Junon. Edited by Cloud, Jan 28 2009, 01:28 AM.

Celest seemed slightly confused at the offer J was making. Either Celest had never seen that much money before, or she was taken aback at J being able to offer that much for something without even batting an eye. While it may have seemed like a lot to Celest, it wasn’t that much to J. 500 Gil was only about one-eighth of her total money. In addition, that was her money on-hand. She hadn’t factored in how much she was going to get from her client for this sham of a job. In the end, though, Celest accepted the offer. She would have been a fool not to. Not because it wasn’t a good deal, but because J was only going to ask once. Had Celest said no, then J was going to finish the job the Chocobo’s started and just taken it for free. It was no skin off her bones if the girl died. J was going to get what she wanted, and nothing would get in her way from that. Celest made the smart decision. It would fill her pockets and prevent her from an untimely meeting with the Lifestream. Truthfully, J didn’t even need the X-Potion. However, J did know that they were extremely hard to find. No, J was thinking for the future. If there was a client in the future who wanted one, then it would be a pain and a hassle to get one. This way, she would have it on her if the situation came up. Of course, if that didn’t happen, she could always sell it again and get her money back. Either way, she’d get her money’s worth with this purchase. Anyway, with her job done and the side transaction completed as well, J had no more reason to stay at the farm. That was good news. J didn’t want to stay around any longer then she needed. She was starting to remember some of the bad memories from the last time she had to ride of one the damn birds. It was an experience that she would rather forget. “Damn birds,” J thought, banishing the memory into the back part of her mind, “I won’t be riding one of those filthy things again if I can help it.” Celest seemed to be done as well. She said her goodbyes and then vanished back into the Chocobo farm. “Bye.” J said plainly. She was done wasting time here. As soon as Celest left, J was gone too. They might meet in the future one day. Hopefully the girl wouldn’t be so much of a ditz if they did. Odds are that if they did meet again, it would be while J was working. J didn’t need a clumsy girl falling all over herself while she was working on a real job. It had taken her about two hours to make the walk from Kalm to the Chocobo farm. She estimated it would take her about that long to make it back. “Might as well call that annoyance of a client.” J thought. She pulled out her cell phone and called her client back. *Ring…Ring…Ring…Click* “Who is this?” The phone answered with a rude voice on the other side, “Who’s calling from a blocked number?” J’s eye twitched slightly from anger. “It’s J,” J hissed through her teeth, “You called me the other day. I’m calling to let you know that I’ve finished the job.” “Oh J!” The girl exclaimed, “Of course! So you have the feathers? Excellent. I hope those filthy birds suffered while you plucked their feathers.” “If they have to be around that girl longer, they probably did.” J thought. That was a personal thought though. “I’m not one of those birds,” J replied, “So I can’t guarantee that. What I can guarantee is that I’ll be at the drop site in about two hours. Do you have the money ready?” “Oh yes,” The client said, “I even asked Daddy for an advance in my allowance to pay for this. It’s well worth it though.” “Annoying little…” J grumbled in her mind. “Alright,” J said, “Then I’ll meet you at the drop site. Until then, J out.” J flipped her phone shut and resisted the urge to throw it into the sea. “Little bitch,” J muttered, “Wasting my time and my talents. She better pay well for this.” As J expected, it took her about two hours to make it to Kalm. Once she was there, it took her about five minutes to make her way to the local inn. J entered the establishment, and a small bell went started to ring. There was nobody at the front desk, which had a sign that read “back in fifteen minutes” and a few people in the lobby. They were going about their daily lives and weren’t paying her any mind. “Alright,” J thought, “Now where is this girl.” J’s thought was soon answered, as no more then thirty seconds later, the small bell on the door rang again. J turned around to see the only person the client could be. She was a girl about five inches smaller then J, and wearing the fluffiest pink dress that J had ever seen. She had the look of someone who never had to work a day in her life and figured that she would be able to get away by just using and inheriting daddy’s money. J immediately vowed to herself to keep going until she had enough money to put this girl to shame. J didn’t want to acknowledge that this girl existed, but she wanted her money. It was the fluffy girl who noticed her first. More specifically, she noticed the Chocobo feathers sticking out of J’s coat pocket. “You must be the hunter,” The girl said, “Alright. I don’t want to be here any longer then necessary.” “You and me both, sister.” J thought. “So here.” The girl pulled out an annoyingly small purse and pulled out a roll of Gil. “Catch.” She said, tossing the roll of Gil at J. J easily caught the money roll and pocketed it. “And here’s your…” J started before she was cut off. “I don’t want those filthy things,” The girl protested, “I just wanted you to pluck the things. Do with them what you want.” It took all of J’s willpower to not blast the girl right then and there. “As you wish.” J said calmly. She wanted this done as quickly as she could. Now that she had her money, this was done. “Until next time.” J said to her, and walked out the inn. As soon as she was outside, J removed the feathers from her pocket and tossed them into the wind. She didn’t need them. “Next time,” J thought to herself as she watched the feathers fly into the wind, “You better have a real job for me.” |
