She whom walks with chainsaws
The land outside of Midgar was so pure and untainted, a sea of warmed green grass rolled on for what seemed forever, the blue sky melding into it like two rivers merging into one large perfect river. The sun hanging warmly above the boundless fields felt great, the fresh air smelled sweet, and yet was still slightly tainted with the smell of mass production, the poisons of Midgar. Gauge removed his helmet ever so languidly and stretched his arms out allowing the sun to bathe his slim figure, his single eye closed to the blinding light, and a real smile appeared on his face. Gauge sat down on the grass and stared into the distance, the wind caressing him at full speed, not dumbed down by obsticles such as buildings.

The openness of the rolling fields seemed like an almost dream after he passed the small ruined area on the out skirts of Midgar, it was funny, now that Gauge looked back on it he never had been outside of Midgar his whole life until this moment. He felt free, the chains of his past seemed to be loose here, he could discover new things and explore new places; however, despite the freedom he now experienced ShinRa still had him on a tight leash that prevented him from being able to be a completely free spirited person. Gauge placed Blue Coyote onto the ground along with his helmet and stared up at the sky, the clouds passed quickly over head, and that drove him wild.

Gauge eventually fell back onto the lofty grass and watched the clouds pass over head, so what if he had a job to be done where he was stationed at Kalm, he didn't have to get there at any particular time and he could always say he was attacked by a monster. Gauge's single eye scanned the boundless sky, his mouth slightly opened as he took in a small breath, and a yawn escaped him while he lay there in the sun's warmth. He lazily sat up, he couldn't remain there too much longer, other wise he'd become sleepy; however, he always wished he could just do that once in his life. For once he wished he could have a moment of clarity, one where he knew he was safe, and he could really enjoy the scenery around him.

Gauge sat there a moment longer, his long eye lashes almost touching his cheek, as he struggled to refrain from closing his eye and falling into sleep. The fields now could be considered beautiful and capitvating; however, monsters did roam the fields willing to tear weary and unprepared travelers apart, luckily Gauge hadn't experienced any monsters yet. Gauge lifted himself off the ground and pat himself clean of any dirt, grass, etc that happened to get caught and stuck to his armor and uniform. He looked around a bit, another yawn escaping his lips, and he bent over to pick up his helmet and rifle, the wind picked up again and Gauge sneezed as dust was kicked up into his nose.

"Oh geez!" he exclaimed as he had nothing to wipe his nose on, a groan escaped him and he tried to snort the snot back up into his nose, maybe he was getting sick. He finally had no choice, he removed one of the gloves and wiped the slime onto his hand and then placed the glove back over his hand to hide the shame of having to revery back to childish actions. He sighed, he wanted to enjoy the scenery, but according to protocol he had to wear that damned Helmet; however, no enemies were in sight, and who would remember him if he did happen to meet someone? His dark eye glanced into the distance, Kalm was getting closer as he pressed on, sadly his time out in the field was coming to a draw.

The black trench coat he wore, covering him from head to toe, the high neck of it coming up to almost half way up the back of his hand and slanting down past his cheeks in the front, and the bottom of it brushing through the tall grass as he moved through it. It was open slightly in the front though, the open strip showing his leather armor, with the strap crossing over said armor on his chest, both dyed to be as black as the coat itself. Also, as the trench flapped open and closed, glimpses of a silver design on the chest of the armor would flash into view then back out. He slowly came to a pause with a glance over his shoulder, catching a last view of the town of Kalm behind him, just barely visible on the edge of the horizon, coat flapping slightly in the breeze. His head then turned back forward as he thought of what lay ahead.

Over the fields of green that stretched out in front of him, the light breeze blowing through them as they stretched from the town of Kalm back towards the city of Midgar. Midgar, that center of the power for them, that company he hated with a passion. A hatred that certainly he had no reason for besides the fact that he knew it was they who had stole his memories and ruined his lives, and that was plenty of reason to hate them. However, it didn’t explain how the hate was so deep he grew irrational with rage on thinking of their name or hearing it, or upon seeing one of those who worked for them. He wondered, not for the first time, if it had to do with the hunger for the life force of others he had. At least, he though it was possible, since it seemed when the hunger was fed and lessened for a time it didn’t seem quite so bad. It was just another one of the mysteries his in what his life had become, and maybe another clue to the past he had lost.

A soft sigh left his slightly parted pale lips, joining with the wind that was swirling around him. The wind lifted the bottom of his trench coat slightly, the edges of it flapping with the breeze and revealing the black leather boots he wore, that crushed the crush under his feet, causing the sweet scent of such to be carried up and to his nostrils. He breathed deeply of the calming scent for a moment, concentrating on that sweet earthy smell as he took a breath in. He let it clear his mind for a moment, and then slowly breathed back out. With a single glance over his shoulder at the peaceful town just barely visible on the horizon, he started walking forward. It was time for him to get back to life, back to accomplishing his goals.

His footsteps carried him across the fields of green rolling grass, his black boots leaving a trail of crushed blades behind him as he walked. Long white locks of hair floated out behind him, carried by the brush of air that moved past him, the strands of it seeming like glimmering strands of snow in the light of the sun as it flashed off it. He paid no mind to it though as his steps carried him into the vast expanse, his mind still turning over the idea of the hunger and the rage being connected. He no longer even noticed the smell of the slightly damp crushed grass wafting to his nostrils so deep in thought had the simple walk caused him to fall into.

Him being so deep in thought also caused him to miss something else for now, something that could be potentially dangerous. What he missed was that there happened to be another person getting ever closer as he moved. Those ice blue eyes that stared at the ground in front of him never caught sight of the person who he could see at the edge of his vision, if he but happened to look up.
