"I know where he his. I didn't say it before, but this is my home town" Chris gave a nod, then led Murray down a few side streets past his parent's shop. He didn't want them to know he was back in town still, but he made it seem like it was a short cut to the person who posted the bill. He led the way past a few places on the west side of the city, then stopped in front of a rival merchant's shop. Though he never met the guy himself, Chris knew who he was primarily because it was a rival of his family's business. He didn't even knock on the door, just walked right in without a word.

The shop was decently sized, a little smaller than his father's shop. But it was packed with a lot of various assortments of Materia, weapons, travel gear, and various other things. It looked like it just sold a little of everything, which compared to his father who sold a lot of everything. If it wasn't in the shop, his father had it in storage. A large man with large flabby arms stood behind the counter, almost glaring at the interruption of counting his money. "What do you want?" It was more of a Get what you want and get out. kind of responce.

"We're here to collect the bounty on the Bandersnatch you posted the bill for." The man looked at Chris and Murray, then put the money in the drawer and gave them his full attention. "So you two kids went out and killed those devils. I hope you brought proof of this tall tale." Chris limped out of the way to give Murray a clear shot at the counter. He looked over at the man with the same disgust he gave them. "No wonder why my dad has such good business. This guy is an ass."

Finally, they had made it back to the town. Seenter led the way to the person who had made the request. It was a small building near the shopping area and the man inside seemed to have a cold, gruff attitude. Whether he was always like this, or if it was more of a situational issue, Chris didn't know, nor did he bother to inquire. After Seenter reported their success, the man wanted to see some proof that they actually pulled it off.

Seenter stepped to the side so that Chris could put all the stuff on the counter to show the man, putting the paws in plain view, as he felt that they were more plausible pieces of evidence. After all, it was entirely possible to shear their manes without killing them. "Here you go, five Bandersnatch manes, five Bandersnatch paws." Chris said, "Now, is that enough proof for you?" Chris was pretty sure that was all the proof the man needed. "Geez, such an attitude as he's giving tends to drive away customers, which are pretty much the lifeblood of any sales or service profession. It's a bit of a wonder that his store is still operational." Chris thought to himself.

The man looked at the paws and the mane, an evil grin coming to his lips. "Yup, looks like you killed them alright." He picked up one of the paws, as well as a handful of the mane. He examined them closely, then looked at Chris and Murray with the evil grin. "I must say, I'm surprised you two took them on by yourselves." He turned his attention more to Chris. "Course, seeing you in that condition I'm inclined to believe it." He sat down hard in his chair, and Chris was still more than stunned that he got any customers. The man turned to an opening to his right and shouted. "Hey Mel! Get in here and take this stuff to the back!"

Suddenly Chris knew why the man got business, and why his father had a hard time overshadowing him. A beautiful woman came up front, with long black hair that reached to her mid back. She was wearing semi-tight clothing that showed off her entire figure, and left little to the imagination. She kept her eyes cast downwards, almost fearful and shy. "Y-yes father." Instantly Chris felt he should shop here, if anything to help the poor girl out. And suddenly Chris realized the ploy.

Being a merchant's son, Chris grew up knowing all the gimicks and tricks that merchants used to get people to buy something. His father taught Chris all the little tricks that the merchants used, and even took Chris to some of the merchants in town as sort of a practice to see if Chris could figure some of them out. His father used a few tricks too, but nothing as dirty as this. Chris watched the woman gather up the paws and mane with shaky hands, not looking up at Chris or Murray the entire time. But looking carefully Chris could see the slight quiver of the woman's lips, as if it was trying to hide a smile. It was an act, and a very good one at that. She must have trained very hard to be able to act so innocent, no wonder the guy had decent business.

However the man took Chris's looks as a sign of interest in his daughter. "If you like her, she's for sale as well." He slapped her on the back, and she dropped everything back on the table. Now that Chris knew the act, he just shook his head with a slight smile. He felt no pity for the girl now, and he especially didn't have any fear with her being this close. "No, we're just here for our money." The man frowned, then with a grunt he turned to grab a wad of bills that were concealed behind the counter.

It was enough to convince the man of their work, and now was the time to negotiate the reward. A glance at the man's face made it clear that he would probably do anything and everything legal to make sure their reward was as low as possible. The man then called up his assistant to help him out on this. It was revealed that the assistant was the man's daughter, she was quite beautiful, and that she could do a pretty good job with guilting the customers into buying here. "Ah, so that's how they do it." Chris quietly said to himself, "However, unless I get a bargain, as in a Restore materia for the price of that All materia I got next door, I'll just take a money reward."

Seenter didn't seem to fall for it, either. Chris gave the shopkeeper a quick look, then said to himself, "I don't think the innocence act would have sold it for me, either. It wouldn't have cost you the sale if you had it, but you never had me." Chris then spoke up and said, "I'll just take money as well." As Chris waited for the man to pull out the reward money, he turned to Seenter and said to him, "Once we're done here, I'd like to ask you something."

Chris glanced over at Murray as the man set a large envelope on the counter. His 'daughter' carried the evidence out of the room, casting a sad look at the two men before disappearing. Chris almost felt sick, if he still didn't feel sorry for her. He reached down for the envelope, but the man's hand held it firmly on the wood. "If you want, I can help you spend it here in my store." The disgusting grin on the man's face turned whatever pity Chris had for the girl, into disgust for the man before him. But Chris kept the same smile on his lips, almost acting innocent in the transaction. "No thank you. I'm not even sure you have what I want, but I'm sure to come back when you have another job."

The man let go of the money, giving Chris a shrewed eye before giving a grunt that suggested 'get out of here'. Chris picked up the envelope and motioned for Murray to follow, if anything to keep him from being suckered by what this man might have sold them. The man probably sold decent stuff, but the way the man did it made Chris sick to his stomach. He led Murray to an alley nearby that would provide them enough quiet to count the money and talk without interruption. He opened the envelope and began to count the money and divide it evenly. "So, what did you want to know?" He spoke easily as he counted the money, as someone who worked in a store for most of his life.

The shopkeeper placed an envelope with the reward money onto the counter, and Seenter picked it up. Afterwards, the two Chrises headed out, but not without saying something. Seenter's goodbye message had a bit of a sardonic tone to it, but Chris wasn't so much so, "Maybe she'll do something useful with those." Chris said, "Hopefully, she will..." Chris then headed out and followed Seenter to an alleyway so they could speak in private. Seenter inquired what Chris wanted to tell him.

"I'm just curious...what do you do for a living? You seem to know a few things about business." Chris said, "By the sounds of things, you have a bit of history with that guy as well. Anyway, maybe I should tell you what I do while I'm here. I'm a 'deliveryman', which is just another way of saying that I'm an adventurer or a mercenary. I chose that particular title because most of the 'odd jobs' that I performed to make money to buy equipment were delivering stuff from one place to another. And with that equipment as well as gained experience, I could widen my service area. Up until maybe last week, I only worked in my hometown."

"Which was Midgar right?" Chris was still counting money, but he seemed to be listening to every word Murray was saying without breaking his concentration on counting. He looked up at Murray with his fingers about half way through the amount. "I've only heard a few things about Midgar, mostly what travelers coming through town have told me. I haven't really been out of this city since I was born, maybe a few times to the hills nearby." He began to count the money again, only this time his focus was mostly on Murray and he occasionally glanced down to ensure the bills didn't change in value. "You want to know what I do for a living? To be honest that's a good question. I never really thought of it."

He looked down at the bills he was counting, almost as if he was lost in thought. He counted about five bills before putting it on hold and looking at Murray. "But in answer to your questions about business and that guy, those I can answer easily. My dad is a 'wandering shop keeper' if there was a name for it. He traveled to many places in the world, gathering various items to bring back here to Kalm to sell. A lot of the stuff he has here you won't find in this part of the world, and that includes Midgar. He's even been to the Icicle Inn way up north and brought some interesting things from there. I learned business from him, as well as some of the tricks of the trade. But he knows I'm more of an adventurer than a business person." He smiled, counting the rest of the bills before he counted a second time.

"I guess you can call that guy in the shop a rival of my dad's, though rival would be a major overstatement. My dad has a reputation in town for having the best variety and most sought after items for most everyone. That guy...." He gestured towards the direction they came from. "That guy has a reputation for selling the most useless junk in town. A lot of his 'patrons' are men at the bar looking for a good time. I'm sure you saw the item in particular that attracts them the most." The last part was definitely sarcastic, but the look on Chris's face showed how disgusted he was with that tactic. One thing was for sure, Chris would only go back if there was another bounty. He counted to the middle of the stack, then split it in two and held the two portions out. One was a little bigger, and the other was a little smaller. "Here's the reward. One has more smaller bills than the other, but they're accurate. You can count them yourself if you want." He smiled. "But in answer to your first question, I don't know what I do. I have someone who is teaching me fighting, and I desire to travel a little. I'm interested in magic and machines, and also in whatever life throws at me."

So Seenter was the son of a wandering merchant. When Seenter compared the goods that his father sold to that of the guy whose store they had just left, he mentioned that the only thing the other guy had of value was his daughter. At least, that what Chris had interpreted it as. Chris got a good chuckle out of that comment nonetheless. Afterwards, Seenter had divided up the reward between them, mentioning that Chris's part had more of the smaller bills. Chris simply pocketed his share, not giving the count a second look.

After that, Seenter stated that he did want to do some travelling, and that he did have some interest with both machines and magic. "Yeah, I'm kinda like that myself." Chris said, "I've played around with machines a bit myself. Most of my planned journey is actually to find some parts to make a machine of some sort. The only part of it that I can find and have access to are the wheels. Everything else...who knows where in the world they are. Of course, even if I do find them, they wouldn't be cheap."

"Oh, yeah, as for Midgar...yeah, it's a big city. Big enough that it is seperated into eight parts." Chris continued, "On top of that, it's a city built on top of a city. The upper city is where the more affluent live and hang out. The lower city is for those not so well off. The upper city is reasonably safe, but the lower city is a pretty tough part of town, so to speak. Even then, I often find myself going there, probably because the people there are more needy, and more willing to accept help. Of course, there's always the fact that hanging out in such a tough environment helps me learn how to defend myself."

Chris gave a nod as he pocketed the money. He heard rumors from travelers that Midgar was divided into two, the poor and the wealthy. His dad even mentioned something about the plates, but his dad mainly did business on top so he never confirmed it. But Chris thought it was only rumors until Murray made it a fact. That meant that Midgar had twice as many people as most cities its size, though there aren't many cities even close to the size of Midgar except the Golden Saucer.

He shifted his shield on his back, then reached out with his hand. "Well it was really great working with you Chris. I hope to see you again in the future." He then snapped his fingers and took back his hand. He pulled out his cell phone, then looked at Murray with a smile. "If it's not too much trouble, how about exchanging phone numbers? Then if another job like this comes up, we can team up again to tackle it."

"Yeah, it was good working with you, too." Chris replied, then extended his hand to complete the handshake. Seenter then requested an exchange of phone numbers, to which Chris agreed to, as he indicated by pulling out his cellphone and getting his personal number. "Let me know once you're ready." Chris said after doing so. Once Seenter was ready, Chris continued, "Okay, my number is...seven-six-five, zero-one-zero-eight."

Once Seenter confirmed that he had received his number, Chris set his own phone in preparation for putting Seenter's number in his address list. "Okay, now I'm ready for your number, once you've got that out." Chris said, "Any time you might need some help, Don't hesitate to call me. I might bring a few others on my list if needed."

Chris entered the number into his phone, including adding both Murray's first and last name. However he put them in backwards, mainly to not confuse himself with however man other Chris' he might run into. He pulled up his personal number and looked at Murray. "Alright, mine is nine-eight-three-three-four-two-six." He then closed his phone and gave Murray a nod. "Well I'll be going now. I sort of ditched my trainer to go on this hunt. She's going to be ticked."

With that, Chris turned to go. However before he got out of the alley, he turned and looked at Murray. "If you like, I know two great places in town. One is the 'True Mining Inn', and friend of the family runs it. It's a good inn. And the other is my dad's place. It's close to the south gate, called 'T M'. it stands for 'Traveling Martin' but only friends of the family know that." He smiled, then gave a wave before taking off for the mountain. "Oh, and call me if you need help also. Don't know if I'd have any friends to be of help by then, but you know I will." With that, Chris disappeared from view around the corner.

"Nine-eight-three...three-four, two-six. Got it." Chris said, then put a name to go with the number. After the exchange was complete, Seenter said that he had things to do, mentioning bailing out on a meeting in order to do the mission that they had just did. "Yeah, especially with the damage you've taken." Chris said quietly. Before Seenter left, he told Chris of a couple of good places to go. Chris nodded, then said, "I'll drop by there some time." before Seenter was out of sight.

Afterwards, Chris headed out of the alley and headed towards the abandoned mine. It was marked 'off limits' due to the fact that monsters had infested the mine. "Hmm...must have been some pretty strong monsters to prevent any work from being done." Chris said, "I'm pretty sure that this is going to hurt blacksmiths all over the world if nothing is done to clear them out. But...how powerful are they? I probably wouldn't want to find out."

Chris checked the time. Around noon. "Plenty of daylight left. I'll probably get something for lunch before heading home." Chris then headed to the inn that Seenter had told him about. After a good and filling lunch, Chris headed back to his home town, without much of an event or incident.
