Another day, another mission and another paycheck. This is how Kyosuke had been living his like so far and nothing seemed to be bad enough that he was even thinking of changing it. He was fed, given a place to sleep and had work, all the basic necessities of life. The young SOLDIER had boarded a helicopter from Midgar en route to Cosmo Canyon, another place he had never been to before, for a mission. It was to be a standard procedure to take out some low level threats to Shin-Ra of which were recently causing riots in the small town. Poor things really, if they just gave the electric company a chance their lives would be so much easier. Even though he was just a lowly 3rd class SOLDIER the caliber of the tasks assigned to him had never been boring. Kyosuke was once again assigned with another SOLDIER, as he had been for the past few missions he did for some reason or another. The man he was with though seemed rather familiar but the young SOLDIER couldn't remember who the guy was for the life of him. "Hello there, my name is Kyosuke! I feel like I've met you somewhere before but I just can't put my finger on it. Have you ever seen me before," Kyo asked his new partner in case his memory good enough to remember someone like him. Something deep down in his gut made him feel like he SHOULD remember this fellow but oh well, its not like he was smart. As they were arriving in the canyon that was named Cosmo, it was a rather beautiful site to behold. The sun slowly set on this old town, with its houses built in the rocks, which gave way to the night and all that it would bring.Sure, they had arrived later then they should have as they might need to sleep before they were able to continue with their mission, but at least that meant, hopefully, a good nights sleep and a chance to get to know each other unlike they usually would. Kyosuke only have one other thought in his mind besides all of this, I'm not gay am I? |

The dark sky speckled with small lights hung like a canopy over Midgar. Korii, the misguided SOLDIER, lay back in his bed. The bluish night's light that pierced the curtains behind made it hard for the warrior to sleep. So he lay, his katana beside on his night stand with the rest of his equipment on the floor. There was nothing on in the small apartment except for the television flashing midnight infomercials of products he would not be caught dead buying. Beside him, beneath the blankets lay a curled up ball, which he could easily identify as his sleeping daughter. The shape would slowly rise and fall as she breathed the sweet air of the slums. He had promised that he would get her out of the pathetic life in Midgar and take her to a small town where she could grow up in peace, not having to know the life of a Shin-Ra operative. With life the way it was going, Shin-Ra would probably take her in and give her an education, but knowing them, they would convert her into a weapon like everyone else. It was then that he noticed something as he looked down at his daughter. What appeared to be a thin film of blue aura was surrounding her, seeping through the blanket and upwards into the air. It had been barely noticeable at first, but now Korii was starting to get suspicious. He slowly rose, reaching out to the edge of the sheet, prepared to pull it forward and reveal what was happening to his daughter. Now or never... He thought as he pulled on the blanket, dropping the cloth to the floor as he stared at his daughter. His eyes widened as he saw what he had revealed. His daughter slowly moved over the bed, her hair now white, her facial features now distorted to a look. The impression was a combination of pain and hatred. Korii would have screamed, but his paternal instinct kicked in and he gained control over his emotions long enough to evaluate the situation. In that time, she turned towards him, her eyes white and wide. "FEAR THE REUNION!!" She screamed before falling to the ground. The spectacle of blue light now over. In the confusion, Korii felt a piercing blow in his neck, but when he went to turn, he fell to the ground. His body collapsed but his eyes could see what had happened. Men in dark clothing had rushed into his apartment, grabbing his unconscious daughter and leaving him on the floor. What the... But that was his last thoughts before falling unconscious. -Several Hours Later- Korii rose, his head throbbing as he started to take in his new surroundings. He was laying in a room completely white. The bed that he found himself on was hard, probably why he woke up with a start, his adrenaline already pumping. Where am I? "Good, you are awake." Came a voice from the corner of the room. Korii's head quickly turned, peering at a man in a dark black business suit. Fuckin Turk... He thought as he realized what he was up against. The best he could do was at least try to hear what he had to say. "Yeah..." Korii muttered, wiping his right hand across his forehead, trying to shield his eyes from the bright light of the room. "So, you want the good news or the bad news SOLDIER?" Korii hesitated as he realized that maybe this wasn't a dream. "Same time?" "Bad news: the terrorist group AVALANCHE took your daughter....the good news, we are tracking her whereabouts now." -An Hour Later- "Hello there, my name is Kyosuke! I feel like I've met you somewhere before but I just can't put my finger on it. Have you ever seen me before?" Korii's head rose as he looked into the eyes of his fellow SOLDIER. The green-bluish glow made them look almost like abominations of nature. In fact, that's what they were. "I'm Korii...we did have a training mission together...but I was called away..." He gathered his composure and stood up, grasping the rail over the sliding door of the helicopter. He was ready to deploy, but first they would arrive in the Cosmo Canyon. His cloak fluttered around him violently as the open door produced enough wind to knock a normal man to his knees. "We drop in two minutes, so get ready!" Called the pilot from the front of the airship. Korii turned to Kyo, "Ready?" |

Kyosuke could only await for a response for his partner on the mission as there was only so much to look at in the canyon. As such, the young SOLDIER turned his head back to the man just in time to get the response that he needed. "I'm Korii, we did have a training mission together but I was called away," the man, whom introduced himself as Korii said. It was then that it hit him, this was the man who Kyo had met when he was forced to train with Dagast and get his rear handed to him. "Ahh! I remember now! I sure could have used your help back there my friend. Ha ha ha, Dagast knocked me out cold and I don't even remember landing a hit on him. Oh well, he did get promoted to 2nd Class shortly after so I guess it makes sense. Is everything ok though? You were called away from the mission so I can only assume it was family matters," Kyosuke spouted, almost without breathing, to his partner. This was something that really needed to stop as talking so much might eventually drive someone to strangle him. An answer from Korii was out of the immediate question though as the two were suddenly interrupted by the pilot of the helicopter. "We drop in two minutes, so get ready!," the man called as they had finally arrived at the drop zone. This caused Kyosuke to look at Korii as it caused Korii turn his head back over to Kyosuke himself. "Ready?," was all the older SOLDIER asked as he knew how short two minutes actually was. Kyosuke got up from where he was sitting and started to get ready as he turned to face Korii again when he was done. "You bet I am," the young SOLDIER said as he smiled and gave his partner a thumbs up. "Meet you at the bottom," he then said, waving to Korii as he jumped out of the chopper they were in since it was close enough to the ground to avoid any real damage to his body. Kyosuke rolled on impact with the ground as to relieve some of the strain his legs might feel had he not where as he then moved slightly off to the side and looked up at the helicopter to see what Korii was going to do and if he was in the right landing zone. |

"You bet I am," Kyo had said, giving a expression of excitement. "Meet you at the bottom," he then said, waving to Korii. Then he was gone. Korii watched him jump out of the chopper and roll, making sure he had landed in the right place. Amateur. He said as he turned to the pilots. They were intently focused on the instruments before them, not caring what the SOLDIER would have to say about the landing zone. If the "LZ" were hot, they would surely give some notification to them or at least it would be evident from the gun fire that would have erupted from below. Korii smirked as he readied himself for the jump down. He slid his arm against the harness bolting his katana to his side. As he looked down at the warrior already on the ground, he had to chuckle. "Another day in the life of..." Then he took the first step and dropped. The drop was not as far as he thought, so when he landed on his feet, the stress of impact caused him to drop to his knees. His robes dropped around him, silhouetting his weapon in the shadow of his attire. He liked how he appear to be harmless, but once he revealed his weapon, his foes would quickly remove themselves from the situation. The katana was a hell of a weapon but from what other SOLDIERs had told him, he would have to learn about these orbs known as Materia. Of course he had done his homework and looked up what they were, but he could not find any in Shin-Ra's inventory that he could use. Well not anything that would fit my style of combat anyway. Shin-Ra used his division of SOLDIER as a shock trooper squad. They were not as important as the First-Class, meaning they were expendable, but what they could do was kill noticed. Thus the expendable were coming into the light as assets. But they were not yet. Not unless you hit Second-Class. And rumor had it that there was a research center in the mountains of Nibel that would become his home. That was only if he could take his daughter along for the ride. Hopefully Shin-Ra knew where she was and how to get her back. Slowly rising, Korii turned to Kyo remember the pretense of their arrival. The canyon was to be cleared on beasts so that Shin-Ra could form an outpost there. What the outpost would be for was not their concern. Korii smirked as his bluetooth headset beeped in his ear. "Shin-Ra customer service, how may I help you?" "Ha, ha. You know your mission Yoshida, just here with an update about it daughter. Sentry has the location in sight and the assault will be launched soon." "Good." Korii's eyes narrowed as he tapped the headset and turned to Kyo. "So, shall we get on with this?" He started walking forward into the calm mountain canyon. The rocky walls above them seemed to loom over them as if he moved forward. The day was quiet...which was something Korii didn't like. Cold, quiet, not even animals... He moved his hand towards his sword's hilt. "Kyo, be on your guard." |

It wasn't long before Kyosuke's partner, Korii, had too jumped out of the helicopter of which they arrived. Sure, he had is own way of doing things as the his fellow 3rd class SOLDIER dropped in a way that seemed rather painful, but that didn't matter as they were both fine and practically at their target area. The young SOLDIER was rather overly exited for today's mission as he was going on his first monster hunt and started preforming squats while waiting for Korii to get over to him. Unfortunately, not that it was really a bad thing, that would have to wait for a few seconds. "Shin-Ra customer service, how may I help you?," the young SOLDIER's partner said out of nowhere. This naive young adult had no clue that the man he was with had been using a blue-tooth headset, not that he even know what one was. As such, he figured Korii was talking to himself and not an operator in the Shin-Ra HQ. "Good," the man said as he looked at Kyo, tapping something on the side of his head before continuing, "So, shall we get on with this?". The curious Kyosuke only nodded his head as he continued to watch and examine his partner, wanting to know what just happened. Korii had began moving forward to their true target location though and as such the young SOLDIER had to follow him or else there would be trouble. It was a rather nice place they headed off into though as the air was cool and the only sound that could be heard, other then the duo's footsteps, was that of the canyon itself. Kyosuke hadn't noticed it, though luckily his partner did, but this wasn't what one would expect of an area where a monster infestation was supposed to be taken care of. The two both stopped, mainly because Kyo had been following Korii, and a warning was to be given. "Kyo, be on your guard," Korii proclaimed, moving his hand over to his weapon that was still concealed. Not knowing what the problem was, Kyosuke decided it would be best to shoot first and ask questions later, drawing his lightsaber in hand. He had not turned the thing on but had there been some sort of attack on the duo's position he would still be ready. Could the infestation been closer or larger then expected or maybe both? "Whats the matter? Do you hear something Korii," Kyosuke then asked to make sure it was what he had assumed. It never hurt to know something, that is unless you knew to much. If someone knew to much in Shin-Ra they just seemed to disappear, not that the young SOLDIER thought about this. This didn't matter though, something had Korii on high alert and with the way he looked it was a bad thing. |

"Whats the matter? Do you hear something Korii?" The SOLDIER was barely paying attention to the man behind him. Luckily he was not wearing his mask. The bushes along the edge of the canyon walls were high and the constant wind, made noticing the creatures amongst them would be hard. That being if Korii was a simple human. But he was not, he had the senses of a super being and the reflexes of a cat. So it was no surprise that when the metaphorical (and literally) cat came out of the bag, Korii was left unscathed. The sheer luck of the draw left him nursing shredded cloth instead of a bloody mess of what used to be flesh. As the his movements next, he would have to play them by ear. He had a partner in arms and working as a team would increase their probability of survival. Especially now that they were alone in the canyon because of a change in satellite location. "Fucking Shin-Ra and moving satellites for other operations." He cursed as he heard the beeping of a lost connection. He remembered in the report about how metals in the canyon would have them rely on their cellular devices and how useless that would be after their transport left and could not relay their signals further upwards. The communications blackout was only for an hour and when it was over they were suppose to have already accomplished the mission. Smirking as he watched the beasts known as Bandersnatch gather before and behind Kyo and himself. The SOLDIER grasp his hand on the katana's hilt and smirked. He had been itching for a fight, but something within him kept telling him to keep the demon hidden. Breathing in deep, Korii calmed his mind, "Alright Kyo. You got my back, I got yours. Let them make the first move and jump." Seconds after the words of advice had been given to Kyo, the beasts made their move. The first before him charged in for a frontal assault, causing Korii to crouch, his katana unsheathed and held outwards, blade horizontal but upwards into the light that dimly lit the canyon. He watched, with a sadistic grin as the satisfying results came to pass before him. The Bandersnatch impaled itself on his blade sending a little mist of blood into the air. But Korii did not have time to celebrate as another beast was making a similar charge at his right side. He could only scream out his partner's name before trying to dodge, a sad attempt at a ninja roll was all he could muster. "Kyo!" Edited by Shin Draven, Apr 4 2009, 09:01 AM.

Almost as soon as he had asked his question it was answered, but not by the person he had asked it too. A creature suddenly jumped out from seemingly nowhere and made an attack as Korii. While it had missed, it still made its mark as it left the young SOLDIER's partner dealing with damaged clothing that would have to be fixed when they returned to base. It was occasions like this that were exactly why Kyosuke didn't wear anything other then his uniform when he went out on a mission. "Fucking Shin-Ra and moving satellites for other operations," Korii then suddenly screamed, as if he didn't even care that he was just attacked. Upon closer inspection though, since the young SOLDIER actually cared what was going on as opposed to worrying about whatever it was his partner was thinking, Kyo noticed that the creature was indeed a Bandersnatch. It was a rather weak creature that Kyosuke knew for a fact he could kill in a blow or two. They tended to come in packs though and since there was only one here the young SOLDIER could only begin to worry. Of course, he just had to think about it as there were now two Bandersnatches in site, circling around the duo of SOLDIER. "Alright Kyo. You got my back, I got yours. Let them make the first move and jump," Korii then said, obviously paying more attention to what was going on then Kyosuke have him credit for. The man had a sharp sense for battle, something a SOLDIER needed if he wanted to make it as far as 1st class. It wasn't the time to think about it though as the two cat like creatures made their move, attacking Korii first. As if to show how much battle prowess he had in fighting, the young SOLDIER's partner reacted immediately to the attack by dodging the initial blow and causing the Bandersnatch to impale itself on his sword. Unfortunately, this maneuver left little time for anything other then a dodge roll by Kyosuke's partner as the second monster began to attack him. "Kyo," he yelled, making it obvious that he expected his partner to take care of the creature since they were a team. "You don't need to tell me twice," Kyosuke replied as he ran towards the creature, uppercutting it in the stomach after it landed from its attack. Finishing off his attack with a spinning slice of his lightsaber, the Bandersnatch fell on the ground in two pieces. "I'm sure you don't need me asking you this Korii but I will anyway, are you ok?," the young SOLDIER then questioned. It was pretty obvious that his partner was fine but you should never take a chance on the battle field. |

But it was in that instance that Korii was gone. The canyon was steep and a backwards step because of his fear of death caused him to plummet downward into the canyon. He would have hit ground, the force of which would knock any man into death. If not for the SOLDIER genetics that oozed through his veins, Korii would have been dead for sure. But his eyes never closed, he was able to catch himself on the edge. His right foot caught stone and with a grace that of men like his own, Korii launched himself into the air. His body somersaulted head over heels before he landed on bended knees. "I'm sure you don't need me asking you this Korii but I will anyway, are you ok?" Kyo had asked. The SOLDIER smiled slightly to his counterpart. He was fine in the least. Grasping his instrument, Korii sheathed the blade and started to dust the loose soil from around his draped cloak. Pieces of stone fell to the ground and the SOLDIER turned his gaze to the distance. This mission was still in effect and Korri would have to lead Kyo towards their target. The position for the outpost was through the canyon. It would be moments before they were at the location. The site had been secured by a team of Sentry agents but they apparently stopped communications. Thermal imaging from Shin-Ra satellites had shown that the location was either abandoned or that the Sentry agents had been disposed of somehow. With the AVALANCHE and their guerrilla-style tactics, Korii knew Shin-Ra missions had been compromised and agents were lost. "Yeah, let's get on with this." Korri said as he started forward. He did not pay any mind to the bloody fur bodies they lay at his feet. He didn't have to, there were all lifeless corpses now. He just tried to focus on his mission, even though his mind was wondering about his daughter. Just bring her home.... Was his only thoughts. As they came through the pass, the SOLDIERs entered the clearing. To their surprise, they could see agents of Shin-Ra working on the construction of a series of small buildings. The mission was over, they had found the men they were looking for. It was no surprise that they were intercepted by two guards patrolling the outer rim. "Can we help you sir?" They asked, their masks muffling their voices. Korii responded, his voice stern. "We were called in when you guys lost communications. What happened?" "Storm knocked out the comm. So we picked up shop and moved here." Korri nodded, "Good. We'll oversee until you get us a helicopter out of here." With that, he stormed off. Hopefully Kyo was at his side as they watched the station come together. Edited by Shin Draven, Jul 2 2009, 07:13 PM.
