Chris was relaxing in the fields after a long sequence of tasks that he had done: From Costa Del Sol, he delivered some goods to Junon, and from there, a delivery to Midgar. It seemed as if that serpent had greatly restricted the flow of trade to and from Midgar and Kalm, so Chris's assistance was greatly appreciated. On noting Kalm, after arriving at Midgar, he was asked to protect a shipment of goods heading that way from monster attacks. That went rather smoothly, as few monsters actually dared try to attack. This is where he got to be where he was now.

Chris had a lot on his mind, but the one thing was standing out most was this one particular thought. "How much can one do on just natural ability and willpower alone?" Chris asked himself, "It's been pretty much proven that anything can be done with the right kind of science, but not all of us want to submit our minds and bodies to that. If we did, then I would have done it a long time ago. Is there a way to get such powers without permanently trading in my humanity for them? What would it take for me to just will myself to do the kinds of things that they can do? Can this 'locked power' be released on force alone, without the 'key' that seems to be in Shin-Ra's hands?"

Chris looked towards the southern skies, where, off in the distance, well past the mountains, stood Fort Condor. "Whether it is possible to unlock this power within the amount of time I'm given before having to return to the Lifestream...or, the way things are going, before this planet ceases to become sustainable..." Chris stood up at that point and got his equipment ready, "I'm probably not going to pull it off if I'm just going to slack like this." Chris looked around to see if there was anything he could train on, like a small group of moderately weak monsters or something like that.

There was a click as a cutch released, and there was a satisfying roar as Ryuu pulled back on the throttle and pressed the button for the ignition. His body was still slightly sore from the Mako infusion process. He had pretty much came to accept the terms of how it happened at the bar the night before. Nevertheless, he still had to clear his head before facing his father again to ask him why he went to such extremes’ as forcing him into the SOLDIER project. He knew of no better way then opening is motorcycle to its max within the open field around Midgar, and he was already feeling better as he listened to the engine rev several times. Ryuu then pulled back on the throttle and let the engine gain some RPM’s, and when he felt it was the right moment he reengaged the clutch casing the rear tire to spin out.

Once the bike gained enough friction, it took off over the road before him. After a couple minutes, he had it going as fast as he dared to go. He looked down at the lines on the road sipping by, and he felt his mind opening up. However, it was probably not the best idea to take your eyes off the road in a place with so many hills and curving roads at near 100MPH. For in an instant he felt his bike incline, and he knew it was way t late for him to correct his direction. Within seconds, he found himself airborne, and he knew Immediacy that it would better to evacuate the motorcycle now and not when it landed.

However, when he landed he lost his footing, and came crashing to the ground, only to slide down a hill on his back and come to a halt right next to someone. “Ouch,” Was all he could say, as he waited for some part of his body to ache. However, a flash of light from above him caught his attention, and in a split second, his sword landed just inches from his head. “Damn, that was little close, hope it didn’t mess up my hair,” he said as he let he head fall back to the ground.

As Chris made his way up one of the hills, he heard the sound of some sort of vehicle coming his direction, probably a motorcycle of some sort. The motorcycle was coming up one of the other sides of the hill pretty quickly. Once the motorcycle reached the top, its momentum carried it well into the sky...and the rider didn't seem intent on doing any tricks of any sort as he jumped off of the bike and fell down Chris's side of the hill after a not-so-clean landing.

The rider had to react quickly to his weapon also flying off towards his head, and he managed to get away from the incoming weapon. "Yikes...that could have been really bad." Chris said as he dug into his bag and pulled out a couple of Materia, then putting them back in as they weren't what he was looking for. After the third pull, he got out his Restore Materia and put it in one of the empty 'slots' of his weapon. "Hopefully that didn't hurt too badly. Are you alright, sir?" Chris asked the young man.

If there was anything, he was expecting it wasn’t to see another person, but then again he didn’t expect to crash his father’s motorcycle about 20 miles out of Midgar. He inclined his head just enough to see the man walking toward him, grabbing at something in his bag. However, after several failed attempts, he seemed to find what he was looking for, and he popped it into some sort of spear. “Not really, I was wearing protection,” Ryuu replied as he tapped his chest showing that he was wearing a leather vest under his black shirt. Though his clothing wasn’t doing so hot. While his black boots held up nicely, he had several rips in his shirt and pants. Though his body for the most part was unscathed, seeing as most of the impact was absorbed by his vest.

Though, his mind came back abruptly to his father’s motorcycle, and before he knew it he was on his feet leaving his sword embedded half a foot in the ground. He ran hurried up to the top of the hill but down at the bottom he found the twisted heap of metal he was just riding, and with that he rolled onto his back and he began to slide back down again. He then took that time to look over the person that had inquired on how hurt he was doing. However, the only thing that really stood out was his jacket, so he figured he would comment. “So what exactly are you doing way out here?” Ryuu asked, as he continued to stare blankly wondering what he was going to tell his father about the 20,000-gill motorcycle.

As it turned out, the young man came through relatively unharmed, mostly because he had let his armor take the impact. The man then check to see whether or not the bike was intact, and Chris followed behind him. The bike...well, it wasn't the worst wreck he saw. The worst he saw was his own airplane after J kamikazed it into Daze. However, this one was in bad shape as well, as in unusable. "Jeez...Next chance I get I'll have to ask Nex how to put things back together." Chris thought to himself.

Then the man asked why Chris was even here in the first place. "Me, I've come to do a bit of monster hunting for the sake of practice." Chris said, "I think at this point, I'm on the level where I can take on small packs of Bandersnatches without too much trouble. How about you? What brings you to this particular area?"

“Bandersnatches?” Ryuu said questioningly, he had heard of them but he truthfully knew nothing of them. It was just one of those things he ended up ignoring in class, along with other things. For the most part he was just a spoiled kid in a man’s body, though his honor was stronger than most. As he grew up, he refused to fight anyone that was smaller or weaker than he was, nor women, and his friends mocked him for it. However, seeing as they were noting more than thugs that took a liking to his father’s money he sometimes wondered if they were worthy enough to call friends.

But for the most part he was still the spoiled rich kid, “No idea what those are,” Ryuu said, as he stood up and wiped the dirt from his clothes. “But the bike is no big deal, I doubt my father even remembers he had it, and if he want he could just buy another one,” He said, turning to the man taking in the rest of his appearance. He was certainly in better shape than Ryuu himself, and clearly, he had to at least have double the battle experience that Ryuu had. “So what exactly is you name stranger?” Ryuu asked as he held out his hand to shake.

It wasn’t really like Ryuu to do so, and there mite have been something forced in the way he did it. But Ryuu wanted to know about the Bandersnatches; perhaps this was also the perfect opportunity to test out his Soldier strength. After all weren’t soldiers supposed to be stronger than normal humans… He sure didn’t feel any stronger since the Mako infusion. He waited then for the man to reply before continuing with his true intentions, “So can you show me where I can find some of these Bandersnatches?” He asked, as he slowly walked over to his sword and ripping it from the ground with a metallic sound replaced it into the sheath on his back.

"Bandersnatches...think a mix of a rat and a wolf and you have a decent idea. They're about the size of wolves as well." Chris said, "It's rare to see just one by itself. They usually wander around this general area in packs of three to five. That's why they recommend travelling in groups, as such a pack can take down a lone traveller without much trouble unless said traveller comes very well prepared. But even one may be trouble to one inexperienced in combat, as they move rather quickly and it's hard to get a good hit on them."

Then the young man inquired of his name. "My name's Chris, by the way." Chris introduced himself, then extended his arm to complete the handshake. Afterwards, Chris continued on the prior subject, "Anyway, the reason I was climbing up this hill was to get a good view of the area and find a pack to hunt." Chris made his way to the top of the hill, then looked around. "Hmm...doesn't look like there are..." Chris said, then something caught his eye, "Hold on, I think I see some down that way." Sure enough, off towards the east or around there, some distance away, was a small pack of the monsters that Chris had described.

"However, I wouldn't recommend just rushing at them. They'll more than likely all come at you if you do that. Unless you've experienced some battles, as I have, you'll be overwhelmed very quickly." Chris warned, then pulled out some Materia out of his bag, "I have found through experience that they can't deal with fire very well. If need be, I can shake off one of them with a Fire spell." Chris set it into his weapon and cautiously approached the pack, intending to not frighten them into either rushing at him or running off, both of which would be equally likely at this point.

Ryuu listened to Chris’s description of the Bandersnatches, and found his mental image to be rather repulsive. Giving him second thoughts on the whole meeting them thing, but as Chris completed his handshake he suddenly felt compelled to go along. Therefore, he followed him to the top of the hill where he pointed out a pack, and they made their way toward them. Nothing more however was said till they were so close that Ryuu could smell the animal’s musty sent, and this was from a guy that had spent allot of time around the Slums, and there sewers.

When Chris finally spoke again it was only to warn him about the said animals they were about to engage. Unfortunately, he felt a stab of annoyance from this; he was never really one to take instruction all that well. Even in games that required heavy teamwork he found himself just doing what he wanted, which may have lead to his slightly inflated ego for when he did this they usually won.

“So why are we sneaking up on them, they are goanna attack when we get close enough anyways, see they have some young near their center. Aaaaand those TV shows about animals usually say they will fight before running in these kind f conditions.” Ryuu said, not even fully aware of what he was saying, “Here see…” With that, he put his fingers into his mouth and let out a loud whistle, and waited for the animal’s response.

Ryuu seemed to know a little bit about wildlife himself, but the reason Chris was cautious in his approach was because he didn't really know if Ryuu was quick or skilled enough to match the beasts' speed, or to endure the entire pack getting on him for more than a couple of rounds of combat. Ryuu tried drawing some of them close, and managed to get three of them to come at him. Of those three, one of them was swift to act offensively, leaping at Ryuu. The other two started circling the two fighters to prevent them from luring them too far away from the pack.

Chris waited to see how well Ryuu was able to react to the incoming attack before taking action. "They're pretty quick compared to most of the monsters in the area." Chris said, "Even those with some combat experience would have trouble landing a good hit on them, unless they focused their training on speed."

Ryuu watched the pack as his whistle reached them, and almost immediately, they charged for him. However, he never took his eyes off the incoming animals, even as he listened to what Chris had to say. A faint smirk grew upon his face; he had always been faster than anything else had. His main philosophy when it came to training was speed was everything, if one was faster and more agile they could avoid opponent’s blows and compensate for the lack of strength in which was the result.

However, in this situation he could clearly see that the animals were going to be harder than he was first though, as their speed was roughly the same as his own. However, in this position he had an advantage, as he was able to prepare in the time that it took the beast to reach him. Therefore, he timed it, and he dodged at just the right time but even then, it was close as the beast’s claws just grazed him. In the same time, he also attempted his own strike, as he swing hi blade from his back, and brought it down right onto the beast’s back.

Ryuu seemed to have the kind of speed to get out of the way of a Bandersnatch's attack, and to get a counterattack in before it had a chance to get back into a defensive stance, doing some good damage. Two more such attacks would probably down it from the looks of things. "Not bad." Chris thought to himself, then put his focus more on the circling monsters. Chris then aimed a Fira spell at one of them. The resulting burst of flame sent the targetted Bandersnatch flying and landing on its back, with its legs twitching, but otherwise not enough strength to get back up.

The other circling Bandersnatch stopped as it saw its packmate was blown away, then fired off a couple of energy projectiles at Chris and Ryuu, two at Chris, one at Ryuu. Chris didn't make any effort to dodge, as at this point, his armor and natural resistance were enough to resist the shots completely. However, Ryuu might still have to make an effort to misdirect the energy shots. The other Bandersnatch got up took a defensive stance as it kept its eyes on Ryuu.
