The Mythril Massacre

Some people say that animals can sense when great tragedies are about to happen. They keep a distance, observing or even avoiding the event all together. Tonight, even the Midgar Zolem avoided the mountain, tonight it lay still, quiet. It was raining when the helicopters first landed. The rain was cold and harsh on the skin. The helicopter blades sliced the droplets cleanly, spreading the smaller ones across the ground. Some of those dwelling in the caves who saw them land remembered great black metal beasts the hum of their engines filling them with dread.

They landed in a straight line, on a large flat outcropping along the edge of the Mountainside. The gangplanks of the helicopters slowly gave way, falling to the ground with thuds. Each helicopter carried ten men, each man was armed and wearing armor showing the insignia of AVALANCHE the anti-shin-ra terrorist group. Even though the clothes said it, the eyes gave away their true identities. These were members of shin-ra, disguised and armed to the teeth.

Each man came marching out of his helicopter and lined up before it. Their tracks quickly being washed away by the growing rainstorm. As they assembled a white helicopter, as opposed to their black iron, landed. From within came a man dressed in a heavy coat. His eyes glowed a dim silver color. His presence seemed to ease the mind, even though your gut screamed that he was more sinister than he appeared.

He observed the men assembled in front of him with a look of icy calm. "You men know why you're here, you've been given a duty to perform, for the glory of Shin-ra. You each have a reason for being here, or signing up for this operation." He eyed a few select members. "Some more sincere than others." A bolt of lightning flashed behind him, rattling the windows of the helicopters. "Take no prisoners, those are your orders."

The soldiers all nodded in solemn obedience. Much to the terror of those observing within the cliff faces. They scurried down the stone steps that they had painstakingly carved over the years. The Mythril Mountain colony had been for them a place of safety and solitude, where they could live out their lives away from the prejudice of those that did not understand them. They knew that shin-ra knew of their existence. They knew that they were a blot on Shin-ra's records. With the support of the people on their backs though, shin-ra could do nothing. Until now.

The man who lead these people, these failed experiments of shin-ra was a man named Dennel. Dennel had been given supernatural strength by Hojo and his diobolical experiments. He was wise and kind hearted toward his fellow man. It was when a panicked youth reported what he had seen that he called the citizens of the colony together. They came in droves, nearly four hundred of them, each wondering what the news could be.

"Shin-ra has come, my friends. We all know why they are here." Dennel said. "Those able bodied men capable of defending this colony should make their way to the gates. The women and children should make their ways to the catacombs below the Colony, and if possible make your way through the tunnels to the outside." His voice was calm, his eyes rock hard, but you could see it in his face, fear.

He rose to his feet. "We must hold the line at the gate, and ensure everyone who can can escape. If possible, we should chase off these ... these monsters who seek to kill us all." He paused, calming himself. "Those of you who are to afraid to fight, now is not time to fear, because if you run away, they will hunt you down, and kill you like dogs." He gritted his teeth.

As a silent panic swept over most of the crowd, those few brave souls turned and rushed toward the gates to fortify them. He silently followed them. The women and children rushed to the catacombs. It was a silent preparation, because all of them knew ... very few would survive this fight. Dennel himself rushed to the doors to meet with those who would stand with him.

"Thank you, all of you..." Was all he said.

Outside the rain continued to pour. The man in the heavy white coat examined his men one last time then spoke. "Move to your positions, I will give the order to assault the colony when you have done so." He said flatly, his glowing eyes turning to the gates before him, stone and iron meshed together. A devious grin spread across his face. "So it begins."

Quote:

The Resistance has 150 Able bodied men at the Gates
There are 300 others within the catacombs.
Your goal is to hold off as many Shin-ra as possible.

Shin-ra Has 250 Men at the Gates, ready to assault.
Your goal is to crush all opposition, and kill everyone within the colony.

I will post again after one day has passed to give everyone involved time to post, otherwise, get ready.

The story of how Nex ended up in one of these helicopters is a long, complicated tale that would require several genius mathematicians, a graphing calculator, three used prophylactics, a map of Fiji, and half of a white castle burger. Luckily for you, I have those things, so I figured it out. However, I’ll give the gist of how he ended up wearing that Avalanche uniform and climbing into that helicopter, getting stares from the other men who wondered why this SOLDIER had ears and was two and a half feet tall. They would be left unacknowledged, but I shall inform you of the truth.

Nex had been floating around in Midgar when he found a SOLDIER in a bar. He had an Avalanche uniform with him, but the Moogle thought it was a ninja costume and stole it. Then, when the call for the SOLDIER to go on their mission began, Nex began following all of the guys with ninja outfits because he thought it was a big spankin’ ninja party. Too bad, it turned out to be racism and planned genocide. Nex didn’t know that yet, because he kept asking the other SOLDIERs how they had become ninjas and they kept telling him to fuck off.

The Moogle let out a sigh as the 57th guy told him to go fornicate himself. Most of the SOLDIER were douchebags. As the helicopter landed, Nex began to get excited, and quickly rushed out when the doors were open. Luckily, no one seemed to care that there was a SOLDIER who was floating and had huge ears. However, his cheery attitude came to a halt when he saw a heavy coated man approaching them. His feet quickly hit the ground, and he mimicked the stance of the other SOLDIER. “Close call,” He muttered to himself.

He began to speak, and Nex thought nothing of it until he heard SHINRA and take no prisoners. What the hell did SHINRA have to do with ninjas, and why would they be taking prisoners? He took a glance down at his ninja outfit and then asked himself, “Have I seen this before?” It was at that moment that the man said the word “assault,” and at that moment Nex realized what was going on.

This wasn’t a party.

This wasn’t going to be fun.

God, there weren’t even going to be any ninjas! What had Nex gotten himself into.

“SHIT!” He yelled loudly, but then quickly raised his hand and said, “My bad dude, I gotta cold,”

((Bowwy, I love you. XD))

The only thing that registered within Alecto’s mind was the whir of the helicopter blades overhead, and the sound of rainstorm outside. She pulled at the high collar of the Avalanche uniform in minor discomfort, disliking the subterfuge that required her to don it. ‘Damn you, Juda London…’ she thought bitterly, infuriated at how close her participation in this mission was to blackmail. And it was all because she went to him, drunk and uninhibited, practically begging him for help, to help her achieve vengeance against the sick bastard that had meddled with her body so many years ago. Now she was on a mission to Mythril Mountain, a mission that would require her to murder people just like herself.

The mission was simple. She was to kill all those failed experiments that called Mythril Mountain home, wipe all trace of them from existence. To avoid sullying the ‘pristine’ image of ShinRa, Alecto was required to wear an Avalanche uniform, making it appear as though the rebel organization did the deed. The people would be united in hatred against Avalanche, who ‘committed’ such a heinous deed, all while the ShinRa swore vengeance against the murderous rebels who had done such a thing. It was true that Alecto had killed people before, but never as many as she was required to on this day. She didn’t want to do this, but it was involvement with Juda London that left her little choice.

But deep within her mind, a small part of her knew that she was just making excuses. This would be the mission to make or break her. It would prove her conviction to the cause that was revenge. Could she take the heat? Would she able to handle so much blood on her hands? She ground her teeth, forcing the thoughts from her mind, knowing that if she continued to torment herself with the moral consequences she would drive herself crazy. Using the techniques her fellow Turks had taught her, she calmed her mind and focused on the task that she had to perform. However, the doubt remained ingrained within her mind, and she felt nothing but pity for the lives she was about to destroy.

It wasn’t long before the helicopters arrived, the gangplanks falling open, and Alecto joined the rest of the Soldier’s as they made their way outside. Her fists were clenched as she lined up with the rest, pulling on her Iron Fang’s as she went and cracking her knuckles. Rain fell from the sky and into Alecto’s hair and down her face like rivulets, and she blinked rapidly against it, peering at Juda London who stood there waiting for them. The words he spoke to them were short and to the point. "You men know why you're here, you've been given a duty to perform, for the glory of Shin-ra. You each have a reason for being here, or signing up for this operation."

She noticed that he eyed her, and despite her better judgment, she narrowed her eyes at him in return. This was quite a sight considering her peculiar, fiery eyes, catlike and feral in appearance. She knew that many Soldier’s aboard the herlicopter had cast her almost hate filled glances, and heard several comments to the affect that she was an experiment and that they ought to kill her too. A swift showing in teeth and claws had changed their minds, along with a hate filled glare of her own. A bolt of lightning flashed overhead, causing her to start from her reverie as London continued to speak. "Some more sincere than others." Ignoring his jibe, her breath grew hard as she mentally prepared herself for what was to come. Her conscience howled at her to turn back and leave now, before it was too late.

‘But it is…’ she thought absently, swallowing hard as Juda concluded his orders. They were simple, harsh, and absolute.

"Take no prisoners, those are your orders."

‘No turning back now…no running away. I have to do this…’ Such terribly selfish thoughts, and she could practically smell the fear of those who inhabited the mountain. It was thick in the air, like a heady perfume, but all it did was make Alecto feel sick. She swallowed down the strong urge to wretch and moved into position as Juda had ordered, keeping her eyes off him and ahead of her where the gates stood. She looked to her right to see a moogle standing in uniform among the Soldier’s, which would have been an enormous sight of hilarity under normal circumstances. Right now, however, Alecto was annoyed. She wished he would shut up, but she held her tongue and ignored the floating rat.

He had better stay out of her way.

Mitsuhide's warm breath mingled with the colder air as a whitish puff of steam as he sighed. The journey had felt too long. Groaning, he realized that the restrictive Avalanche uniform impeded his ability to stretch out his wings. Glancing around at the many SOLDIERs that were now exiting their respective helicopters, he noticed a small, distinguishable ball of fluff within the ranks.

"Nex?" He murmured to himself. Aside from the slightly-too-large uniform that the Moogle wore, there were multiple resemblances. He could not be too sure, though, because the Moogle's hair was not charred any longer from the explosion that had occurred about a week before. Sighting the Moogle raised Mitsu's spirits, though, even if it turned out not to be Nex.

His gaze was diverted to the sky, however, as an oddly white helicopter landed after the last of the SOLDIERs were out of the helicopters and complaining about the horrid weather. The gangplanks of the new helicopter lowered and out stepped the man that would be directing this mission. To Mitsu's surprise, it was Juda that stepped off of the machine. Mitsu watched and waited patiently.

Mitsuhide glared without meaning to at Juda with his dark maroon eyes. Mitsu could care less about Shin-Ra. He was only here for Juda. Shin-Ra could go to hell for all he cared, as long as Father was left unscathed. His goal was to make Juda proud. Mitsuhide knew the real reason that they were here, but he would be reluctant to share the information with anyone that was not an Iscariot member.

Resting his left arm on the sword that hung at his waist, Mitsuhide positioned himself. His heart pounded excitedly at the thought of the massacre that was soon to occur. He hoped that it would not take too long, though, as he wanted the chance to fly in the mountains as Father had promised he would be able to...

After hearing Dennel make his speech Chloe looked around the grim chamber her face covered in shock. Her reason for being there had been bad. She'd been in midgar and her condition was plaguing her again. She hadn't been able to sleep, she'd felt so twitchy she felt she was going to be sick. She went to the slums again, as far away from the sun as she could get. Into the darkness, into the filth. Eventually she'd gone to far down. She'd found a group who deserved to die and she killed them. But she found something there that she shouldn't have used, some kind of drug. But the feeling......the weakness. It had been to much. So she used it. After that she didn't remember anything but black.

One of Dennels people had found her there, it was still a blur to her. The woman had been making her way to the "Colony" She'd been doing something for Dennel in the slums, Getting supplies if Chloe remembered right. She couldn't be sure. The woman had been walking down the street when Chloe had stood up from the middle of a pile of junk, she was covered in filth and minor cuts and scrapes. Her eyes had been burning as she approached the woman and her reaction was normal.........for them anyway. The woman had dropped what she was carrying and flicked her arm in a strange manner causing steel to cover her arm, as Chloe had walked toward her the woman prepared to strike only to catch Chloe as she collapsed,

The woman had assumed Chloe was one of them and took her out of the city. When Chloe's flesh began to burn in the sunlight the first time it had struck the woman became convinced. She had brought her back to the colony , Chloe remained unconscious for the journey and when she'd woken up she hadn't been anything near coherent. They'd had to restrain her to keep her from hurting herself and everyone else. When she came too she'd been ashamed, but apparently among the failures of Shinra it wasn't an uncommon story. She'd only woken up a few days ago but she ha considered staying. now that was impossible.

And from what she'd learned here. she couldn't do much else either. Her employers had been the cause of her friends death. the cause of her near death experience. And she wasn't the only one. After Dennel finished his speech Chloe calmly removed her knife from her sheath on her arm and tested it on her other wrist slicing deeply into her flesh but ignoring the pain . Satisfied the blade was sharp she put the knife back , no one around her seemed to notice the blood. She was dressed in a stomachless white tank top and white shorts leaving much of her skin exposed, her feet too were bare.

When she had been woken the clothes shed been brought with had been coated in her blood. Apparently they'd had quite a time restraining her without hurting her until they figured out how hard it would be to hurt her very long and since then she hadn't worn clothing that covered her arms or legs much. It only made the blood stick easier. She pulled her gun from its holster and returned it after being satisfied it was ready. She stood waiting for a command. She knew others would better know how to use her new talents than she would. She was only used to being a foot soldier. Her eyes were bright as fire seemed to consume them from within , She would not let this place fall. not easily.

Ian merely said nothing as Dennel explained the situation at present, his guns still under his gunner's jacket. His face could've been carved out of stone, but for all that impassiveness, Ian was shaking internally. This was far beyond anything Ian had ever accomplished thus far, including the Corel Mountain job. He had been spending most of the time working on Twilight trying to buff out the gash that crazy lady from Costa del Sol had put on it, and by the time it was time to move out, the gun looked like it hadn't been damaged at all.

"Alright, gents, let's kick the tires and light the fires!" he said, hoping to stir a little inspiration into the resistance, but considering the fact they were going up against the right hand of Shin-Ra, it was obvious to tell they were not in the mood for jokes. So instead he decided to slid a pair of clips into both Twilight and Daybreak, sliding the first bullets into the chambers. This was likely going to be the biggest fight of his life.

The fight could likely go either way. SOLDIER was professional, unfeeling, not easily turned away. The resistance was deathly afraid, highly unorganized and willing to run away to fight another day, or not at all. He spun the handguns on his trigger guard, absentmindedly fidgeting as he waited for the fight to begin.

And once again, he found himself fighting alongside another girl. Gun and knife, and she was dressed like she had no idea what she had grabbed out of her closet. What was the deal? Fate seemed to like pairing him up with women. But he put that aside, rather allowing himself to settle into his normal battle rhythm, his foot tapping to the beat of some song he was hearing in his head.

His mouth began to form words...

All hail Shadow, heroes rise again...

Juda London, the man who organized this operation smiled cooly at his subordinates. They had begun placing the explosives at the front gates of the colony. According to what information had been gathered and dispersed to the rest of the troops it was the only way into the structure. As far as they knew there wasn't an escape route. The soldiers murmured about this, one or two of them noted that it meant a fight to the death. These guys are going to be fighting with their backs against the wall.

A group of approximately fifty men stood near the gates, just far enough away to avoid the blast. Their guns were trained on the doors for when the iron slabs fell to the ground. A skinny man wearing a pair of goggles rushed up to him. "Sir! The charges are set!" Juda smiled at him. He turned to the intercom and pressed a key, the message went to all those troops under him into their earpieces. "When the doors fall, that is your signal to begin the assault." There was no response, he knew why obviously, most of these men were professionals and they spent this time mentally preparing themselves for their duties.

There was a long pause after that moment, no movement, no sound, as if the world itself caught its breath in preparation for what was to come. Then a loud, earthshaking explosion and the sound of groaning steel as the doors creaked and began to fall. They clattered to the ground and, without warning someone shouted. "GET'EM!" And firing started.

Within the Mythril Mountain the defenders stood shoulder to shoulder staring apprehensively at the gate. What men they had watching the entrance said that they were just standing there. They didn't have the firepower to kill them from above, so as Dennel ordered they would defend from within the entry hall. It was a narrow space, about fifty feet wide that they could bottleneck the enemy troops in.

A message came down over a radio next to the group that stood near the gate. "Looks like they attached something to the gate... its a-!" An explosion rattled the cavern shaking loose rocks as the iron gate creaked and fell outward. A voice called out amongst the shin-ra troops. Or it could have been a member of the resistance, no one really knows. Someone shouted out however. "GET'IM!" And the firing started. Bullets began whizzing through the air as Shin-ra troops disguised as members of AVALANCHE began to advance.

Meanwhile Dennel and a small contingent of men escorted the women and children into a safer spot within the cavern. The stone wrought buildings that made up the colony were still occupied with those unwilling to leave their homes and their possessions.

Mitsuhide’s eyes narrowed and a small smile drew itself onto his face. The enemy was near. Just behind those gates. Every second his heart pounded the corrupt blood through his veins ever the more fiercely. Stealing a glance at Juda, Mitsu’s smile widened to a grin. Their eyes connected for a brief moment and Mitsu nodded, letting his adoptive father know just how ready he was.

The charges were set. As a skinny, goggled man ran up to Juda, Mitsu’s grin transformed into a serious frown. It was time. Everything fell silent as the other soldiers fell silent, preparing themselves individually for the battle yet to come. Mitsuhide dank the silence in like a warm liquor. Ecstasy. He closed his eyes and the explosion of the charges rocked him back, his balance faltering as the earth shook beneath him. He opened his eyes as the firing began from the arc that had formed around the gates.

A couple of enemy scouts popped up from above the gates somewhere and began to fire upon the Shin-Ra units. One of the soldiers yelped as his side was pierced, but he was the only person wounded before the scouts were ripped apart by gunfire. Theirs was the first of all the enemy blood that would be shed that fateful night.

A few eager soldiers stormed the gates, and bullet fire ceased from the arc for a moment to let them through. Mitsuhide began to charge forward from his position, faster than any of his fellow unit members. A second later, grunts and screams echoed from within the stone structure. Mitsu was sure that those that had first engaged were having fun now. Picking up his speed, he shoved two soldiers out of the way and ran into the stone hallway. The rusted smell in the air and the fact that there were no more screams coming from the long hallway stopped Mitsu in his tracks. Looking down the dark hall, he realized just what they were up against.

About twenty yards distance away from his position was a long line of men, grim faced and wary. They filled the fifty-foot span of the hallway in the attempt to block any advancement from Shin-Ra troops. The corpses of the first few that had charged in lay strewn about at the feet of the enemy. Some appeared to have no injury, some appeared to be ripped to shreds. Some even appeared to be ripped into pieces. Mitsu counted twelve bodies in all.

Each of the men stared Mitsu down, refusing to budge. Mitsu snarled at them, and saw fear in their eyes as a return. He laughed on the inside. They would fight. They would fight like cornered rats, but with a little backup they would be no problem. Mitsu stood there, blade drawn, awaiting the revival of his unit and a few of the other, more elite, units.

Nex’s staff was held tightly in his hand as he calmed his breathing. What was going on? Where was he? What was that crazy bitch talking about? The questions were slamming into Nex’s face like a large man’s penis. He was about to scream something about justice when a large explosion ripped through the calm of the air and then bullets began to fly. That had answered the first question. It was a battle. It looked up and saw Mythril Mountain. That answered the second question. He then glanced into the cave and noticed that the people inside weren’t exactly…normal.

They were living in a cave, for one, and secondly, a few of them didn’t seem like regular humans. So, all of Nex’s questions were answered, and now he only had one last thing to do. Figure out what the fuck to do. He was dressed in the outfit for killing, but his brain was telling him not to attack the innocent and justice filled. That would, of course, cross the pact he had made with himself on not to attack the innocent and justice filled. However, Nex did like killing shit, so he was in quite a predicament. The only thing to do wa-

“TIME TO KILL MOTHER FUCKERS!” The words from Nex’s mouth shocked him, and then his wings began to beat and he flew towards the cave, charging a Thunder. He then swung his staff forward, releasing the bulk mass of electricity at the front of the gate, which, when it exploded, would cause pain to SOLDIER and Experiment.

Ian's contigent was somewhere within the second rank, a small group of about twenty guys armed with poorly maintained firearms crowded around the resistance side of the cave. Ian was still mouthing his battle theme, "All Hail Shadow," when the doors suddenly crackled, buckled, crashed, burned, and blew up all at the same time. For a moment, all Ian saw were a group of men dressed in AVALANCHE uniforms.

There was a loud yell from somewhere, and then the battle began in earnest.

"FIRE!" Ian howled, squeezing Twilight and Daybreak's triggers as bullets flew from the twin pistols' barrels into the mass of Shin-Ra soldiers, with his unit of twenty or so firing with him. His mission was clear: let no single Shin-Ra enter that cave. Who knows what could happen if even one escaped him.

There was a loud crack of thunder and a bright light, and it was far too close for it to be the storm outside. Ian swore. They had a caster! That was not good at all. Anyone with an AoE weapon was likely to wreak havoc on their defenses. Ian knew what he had to do.

"Spread yourselves out!" he called. "Try to find whoever's casting those spells and take him out before they deal too much damage!"

It wasn't exactly tactics worthy of Sun Tzu, but it was a start. As Ian continued to fire in the same general direction as his unit, his keen eyes were searching for the caster. Ian's blood was screaming through his ears as he roared his challenge to Shin-Ra, "Come on ya stupid jackasses, I won't let you come anywhere no those innocents behind me! My name is Ian Havenwing and my word is as good as my guns!"
