Many moons had passed since...no, that's not right. The war happened only yesterday. Although the strongest fighters of the side that Chris had taken, at least the ones he knew about, were not present, and were instead doing who-knows-what over in the west, Chris had done his part pretty well, with his Materia-granted multi-targetting ability being put to good use in weakening the opposition. Still, Riku probably did likewise for his side, and the result was their efforts cancelling each other out. Chris probably planned that in the first place, though.

But now the war had ended as swiftly as it begun, and whoever survived the battles returned to life as usual...whatever that was nowadays. Chris was now considering moving up to a bigger weapon than the one had at the moment. Or at the very least, a reinforcement to that weapon. Hopefully, it wouldn't be too expensive. Chris had spent the whole morning, from breakfast up until lunchtime, catching up on the requests that came up while he was out. On his way to lunch, he came up across a curious little building. It appeared to be a machine workshop of some sort, and whoever worked there was in and hard at work.

He didn't feel it was right to peek into someone else's work like that. Last time he did that, he got shot repeatedly. Chris decided to check his Materia arrangement while he waited for his presence to be known and maybe recognized if the resident took part in the battle, just in case something happened that involved combat. Chris switched out the Fire Materia that he had in there for one of the others which needed the 'experience' more. In this case, it was the Water Materia.

<Translated from Moogle>

The residense looked normal enough, except of the obvious parts that seemed to have been left outside. Nothing really pretty, course this was under the plate so it looked a little better than most. Only sounds could be heard coming from inside, as well clattering and cursing. After the cursing stopped, a wierd voice came from inside. <"Candy, looks like someone is on the monitors. Can you see who it is?"> A bunch of hustling seemed to come from the other side, followed by some grumbling. <"I swear, that Moogle is so lazy."> A slightly pink Moogle wearing a plain apron opened the door and stepped out. She stopped as soon as she saw who it was, then glanced at the weapon the stranger held. "Can I help you kupo?"

Stilz looked up from the blueprints he was making to glance at the monitor. Candy was talking to whoever was outside, and she seemed nervous in the process. It wasn't until he actually looked that he noticed the stranger held a weapon, and a look of realization came to his eyes. He quickly strapped on his Caster Gun v.1, then flew towards the entrance. He really hoped the stranger came in peace....

It wasn't soon after that Chris's presence became known, as a young Moogle lady came out and asked what he wanted. Chris noticed in her tone that she was a bit nervous. It was likely that the reason was that Chris was dressed more for battle than for friendly conversation, and his appearence seemed to intimidate her more than a little. "Just making a mental note of this particular facility so that I know where to go in case either one of us has any particular need for the other's assistance." Chris said as he took off his helmet. By that time one of the others in the building came out in a rush to defend the facility, "Sorry if I seemed to have intimidated you...I just came out of a rather big battle and I wan't going to let my guard down too much if someone on the side I opposed went and attacked me out of a grudge...although from what I've seen, a good number of them would probably start a fight just for the sake of fighting."

"Anyway," Chris continued as he put the pointed end of his spear on the ground and rested it on his shoulder, "If there is anything I can help you with, even if it's getting you some supplies, I can probably do so. Even better if I can help out with what I have on hand at this moment." Chris then pulled out the bag of Materia that he had, which held only half of his 'inventory', the other half already inserted in his equipment.

Stilz arrived and noticed that the one who stood before him was a young human. Young was the relative term, because he didn't look like a child. Yet it was obvious that he wasn't a full grown adult either, by human standards. Or maybe....he just looked younger than how old he really was. Either way, it looked like the guy was skilled yet harmless for now.

Stilz put the gun back into the holster, but kept his armed out of percaution. Normally Stilz was good at reading people, but he'd been wrong before. He gave the stranger a smile, showing no harm was done. "No harm done kupo. Can't be too careful down here kupo." The Moogle hovered in the air for a moment before floating over to where the bag was open, looking inside to see. He was very careful in his movements, as he didn't want to get stuffed in the bag.

A decent amount of Materia were inside, some he could only guess on. The Fire Materia would be helpful in some of his more dangerous experiments, but those were a ways off. Stilz didn't say anything, just looked at the contents of the bag and what the stranger held. The Dragon Helm that the stranger wore also seemed to interest him, a possibility for a Libra Materia with the right tweaking. But he kept a basic curious look on his face as he looked around.

After a few moments Stilz landed on the ground, looking at Candy with a smile. <"He has a few interesting items, some stuff I can use in my experiments."> <"Yes, but don't you think this seems odd. A stranger offering us help and items?"> Stilz gave a nod, then turned to face Chris. "It's a generous offer kupo, but what are you wanting in return kupo. All of this seems a bit much as a simple offering kupo."

After Chris made his statement, the Moogles relaxed their guard a little bit. They then asked what Chris wanted for his end of the deal. Chris took a second to think about it, then said, "I'll accept a small Gil payment, unless we come up with something rather useful that I can use...nothing big, of course. Most of what I have planned in advance are really big, so I won't force those upon your comparatively small shoulders. No offense intended."

After he said this, Chris considered bringing his small plane to see if they could either try something with that, but it was a bit of a ways away at the moment. Chris also considered showing what he had on him. Chris took out a piece of paper, which he always had a few in his pocket for whenever inspiriation strikes. Chris decided to start with the Magic Materia he had on him. Chris's first entry was something more in the 'practical' category, especially for still-landborne adventurers: "Water Materia: Infinite Canteen." Chris said to himself as he wrote it down. He didn't even bother to check if it was that kind of workshop, but given it was run by Moogles...

Stilz began to talk with Candy while Chris was writing, not really sure what he was doing. <"He doesn't seem like a bad kind of guy. Might need a little 'cultural' lesson though in dealing with Moogles."> <"Ya, but I don't think he meant any offense to it. I think he just doesn't want to be a bother."> Stilz looked at Chris still writing, not really sure if he should wait or peek over his shoulder.

Candy didn't seem to mind, as he hovered over Chris's shoulder and looked down at the paper. She glanced at the things being written, then began to talk out loud. <"Water Materia: Infinite Canteen, Fire Materia: Fire Starter....I think he's writing down how each item would be used for starting adventures."> Stilz frowned as he hovered a few feet off the ground to think. Either this guy was an idiot, or he thought they were too stupid to know the implications of Materia. All of Stilz's machines and research revolved around Materia, he probably knows more about it than this guy.

Candy kept looking at the items being written down, then something caught her eye. She landed next to Chris and walked over behind him, pushing his arm just a little to see the paper better. She pointed at a particular entry about what could be a machine, then looked up at Chris with a curious look. "Is this a flying machine you made kupo?" Stilz flew over towards Chris and Candy, now with his curiosity getting the better of him.

One of the Moogles was looking at what he had in mind, both for 'spur-of-the-moment' ideas, and some of the longer-term plans he had. The Moogle was curious about the aircraft, and asked about them. To that, Chris said, "Indeed, I actually have several designs of varying sizes and functions. I've already got the smallest of the three designs, which was intended as my personal 'go places' aircraft, built. The mid-sized one is actually in progress: I have most of the parts for it already, but financial issues are slowing down the completion of it."

Chris then pulled out the plans for said machine, drew attention to the Moogle-esque wing design, then explained its purpose, "I had in mind, first and foremost, a machine that would connect to one that belonged to a friend of mine. His was a land-based combat machine, and I had it designed so that it could attach to the back of that machine, thus allowing it to take to the skies. However, I also made this so that it could work on its own, for whatever reason needed, as in either his machine's weapon systems get disabled, usually by running out of ammunition from what I've seen, or the strategy becomes to catch the target in a pincer attack."

As he was talking, he decided to revise his ideas, now knowing that the Moogle was more willing to take on 'bigger' projects. For the first one, he scratched off 'Canteen' and replaced it with 'Steam Engine Water Supply'. For the second one, he scratched it off completely and replaced it with: 'Fire (and maybe Aero, if needed): Rocket Boots'. After that, he added on another one: 'Gravity: Anti-Gravity aerial transport system (Could also be used for land vehicles)' Afterwards, Chris continued his explanation, "As for the biggest of the three designs, I intend it as a mobile base of operations of sorts. A mix of enjoying the comforts of a home, with the freedom to go anywhere I want at any time."

Candy watched as Chris made revisions to his list, her eyes growing in wonder at the 'new and improved' list. She read the pieces out loud so that Stilz could get the list without crowding the human. "Water: Steam Engine Supply, Fire plus Aero: Rocket Boots, Gravity: Anti-Gravity...." She looked up at Stilz with a surprised look on her face. <"A lot of his ideas are similar to the ones you're working on."> Stilz floated up a little to glance at the paper. <"Really?"> Candy looked up at Chris. "Those are ideas using Materia right kupo?"

Stilz hovered in mid air with his arms crossed, obviously thinking. If this guy was able to come up with ideas like this, he might be able to help Stilz with his research. It's sort of grounded to a halt because neither Stilz nor Candy were good at using Materia. That and they didn't have any Materia to practice with, except for the Aero Materia on loan from Shin-Ra. But that wouldn't work. He looked up at Candy, who was busy looking at the blueprints for the second device. <"Wait, he's using the Water Materia to fill up a steam engine right?"> Candy nodded, tracing out something on the blueprints. <"Ya, looks like it might be in his plans for the other flying machine he was talking about.>"

Stilz looked up at Chris, then hurried into the house. He made a beeline for his laboratory, rushing in and not even bothering to close the door. He began to pull together a few of his own blueprints, ideas for an alternate power source that required two devices. He came flying out of the house with the rolled up blue prints, coming to a stop in front of Chris. "Well, if you don't mind looking at some of my designs kupo. I think I might have an alternate power source for you to try kupo."

The lady Moogle listed out Chris's proposed ideas to her partner, and after a brief conversation, she asked if those were indeed ideas for Materia-powered devices in mind. To that, Chris answered, "Indeed they are. Whether we're on the same page or not...there's still some good coming from it." After the two Moogles exchanged conversation, the one who had come up to defend went back in, presumably to get something. While he was doing so, Chris decided to introduce himself to the other. "My name's Chris, by the way."

It didn't take long for the young Moogle man to get what he came for: Some rolled-up pieces of paper, likely containing his own designs. The Moogle gave them to Chris for him to look at. A couple of the plans revealed that they were thinking similarly, and a couple more of them were designs for a new kind of engine and some components needed for such a design to work. However, from reading the plans, Chris found one 'necessary' component missing. A power source. Chris would have to fill in the blanks for this one. Unless the engine recycled the used energy 'perfectly', meaning that its supply didn't eventually dwindle, it would have to be refilled periodically somehow. Chris knew enough about Materia to know that they in themselves were only energy converters, at least in the case of the green Magic Materia. The source in that case his own body.

"Hmm...from what I see here, while it would likely be designed to be more efficient than how I currently do it, I can't really see it running without some sort of energy supply." Chris said, "Maybe a device that would draw on one's own energy, probably best if used just before resting for the night, since a good night's rest will fully recharge one's own power supply regardless of how much is needed, and convert and store it in a form that the engine can use. Then the 'batteries' can be inserted into a number of devices, such as engines, weapons, possibly others that would need a power source of some sort."

"The challenge is making the energy-gathering and storage process relatively efficient, but I don't really have a definite scale for it." Chris said, "Making the equivalent energy usage less than my usual method, which is filling up three gallons of water in three casts of the Water Materia at Level 1, which is enough to get me across large bodies of water, would be ideal, but difficult to pull off. A more reasonable goal is to have something that would power the engine long enough to carry a small airplane across an ocean for less energy than an Ether can restore."

Candy introduced herself and Stilz as the young Moogle came back with the plans. Stilz gave a slight nod as Chris was explaining the concern for the power supply. To be honest the Moogle had the same concern when he was first coming up with the idea for a Materia based engine. The idea for using the Lightning Materia was the first to come to his mind, as electricity was an easy enough power to come by and manipulate. But he created a series of engines that used an alternate Materia source, none of which had the ability to recharge themselves. Even the Lightning Materia had to be 'refueled' once the power supply ran out.

That's when Stilz came up with the idea for the Energy Converter, which was still just an idea in the making. By taking some of the electricity generated by the Lightning Materia, the Energy Converter would change it into a power source similar to MP. If it worked then the Materia would actually be able to power itself, though the resulting MP would slowly decrease by half until it eventually ran out. He began pointing out the ideas for the first prototype. "The original idea kupo, was to just use a Lightning Materia to make the engine kupo." He traced the area that showed three wires that simply fed off the Materia in the center of the machine. "The biggest problem, as you said kupo, is the fact that it would require a constant supply of magic in order to be powered kupo." He pushed that blueprint to the side to show the remade blueprint with the Energy Converter blueprint next to it. "This right here would, in theory kupo, be able to convert electricity into an artificial magic power source kupo. It would be able to resupply the Materia Kupo, though only for a short time kupo."

The engine would be perfect for the mobile base that Chris was talking about, no need to stop to refuel or worry about any large scale maintenance. it could even be helpful in smaller machines, like a few that Stilz had hidden away in his workshop. Those he felt he should keep quiet about for now. He moved the blueprints over to show his final design and the Energy Amplifier. "The final design is this, with this other device kupo. It amplifies magic, effectively doubling it coming out the other endkupo. If it works, then the engine would be entierly self-sufficient kupo."

Stilz looked up at Chris, a slight nervous look on his face. "Unfortunately I hit a snag kupo. I'm not good at using Materia very well, and neither is Candy kupo. Haven't been able to test and learn about magic kupo, so my research has come to a stand still kupo." He begins floating in the air, crossing his legs and arms in thought. "What I really need is a human who can supply the research material for me by using magic kupo. But Samy is off on a mission so I can't ask him kupo." He waves his hand at the surrounding area. "Those who use Materia down here I don't trust kupo. And I know I can't trust Shin-Ra for something this secret kupo." Candy was still going over the blueprints that Chris had, as well as the list that was so far made.

"The main problem I'm seeing with all that is that energy can't just be pulled out of nowhere." Chris said after all the plans were explained. Chris was particularly concerned about the device used to multiply energy, "You can't put in one and get out two. You'll have to input a second 'one' to get to two. However, if you can make it powerful enough to generate enough lightning that it can be converted to more energy that what was used to generate it, that might just work."

Chris then drew up a diagram for what he had in mind. Chris put in a square to denote the energy-conversion device, then a circle for the Lightning Materia, and then drew two arrows, each one pointing from one object to the other. Chris put a number 3 below the arrow pointing from the converter to the Materia, and above the arrow from the Materia to the converter, the number 5. Chris then drew another arrow coming out of the converter, pointing to nothing in particular, indicating that where that goes would be filled in by any of a number of devices. Chris then put in a 2 next to that arrow.

"However, the only problem with that is that I don't have anything that would give me definite numbers for power input or power output." Chris admitted, "Maybe if you have something like that, we could get those numbers so that we know how much power we'll need to make this work." Chris readied his weapon for if the Moogles had such a device, and when they brought it out.

Both Candy and Stilz looked at each other with a smile, and Stilz couldn't help but smile as he turned his attention back to Chris. Candy went back to looking at the drawing Chris did. "Actually that's the problem I just said kupo. I have the idea to make a machine that can measure electricity kupo, but I don't have a Lightning Materia to measure it or someone skilled in magic kupo." Stilz shuffled to the last blueprint that showed a sort of glove that was hooked up to a bunch of wires leading to a machine. "I have the parts to make it kupo, but I'm missing the Materia and the person to test kupo. That's why I said my research was at a stand still kupo."

Candy looked up from the drawing, jotting down a few equations that better represented the power distribution. Math was her forte, inventions were Stilz's. <"Hey, since Sam isn't here maybe Chris could help. He looks like he's been doing this for a while."> Stilz gave a nod as he looked at Chris. The young man seemed to have seen a few fights in his life, and seeing the Materia he listed he had some skill with the stone. He'd be perfect for the tests, especially since he made the flying machine himself.

"If you want to help kupo, we might be able to make the engine kupo. I might also be able to improve on your design kupo." He pointed at the second machine that Chris was wanting to make. "First, did you take into account your friend's machine weight when you made this design kupo? And do you plan for it to take off like a plane or a helicopter kupo?" Stilz looked at the blueprints carefully, trying to read the human writing.

"Ah. I see." Chris said, "However, I don't have one on me, but the Materia shop down below sells them. I'm a pretty good customer there, so it shouldn't be too much trouble. It'll take a few minutes, so while I'm getting it, you can get yourselves something to eat if you haven't already." Chris then started to head off, then the engineer asked him another set of questions, this one regarding Chris's work in progress, "Yes, I am factoring in the extra weight into this. That's partially why I'm building it in the first place. The one I have at the moment isn't going to do the trick."

"And as for how it flies, I initially intended it to fly like a winged creature of whatever sort." Chris continued, "However, I'm not sure if that's going to provide enough lift to keep it even ten feet off of the ground. I might add on supplementary jump jets to make up for this. In this regard, it takes off somewhat like a helicopter in the sense that it doesn't need a long stretch of open space for takeoff. At any rate, I'll be off to get the Materia you need." Chris then did so.

About fifteen minutes later, Chris came back with one extra Materia, three hundred less Gil, and his airplane. "Okay, I've got it." Chris said, then showed the newly acquired Materia to the two Moogles once they were ready to see it, "Now we can start the tests."

Stilz had already gone inside to prepare the machine and various other equipment. He had this test planned for some time now, though he was waiting for Sam to return to go through with it. But since he left, Stilz reconfigured the machine to accomodate Moogles. The glove that they were going to be using was much smaller, not to mention the settings were meant for someone with little skill in magic like Stilz and Candy. But with Chris here, both aspects would have to be changed.

Candy was waiting outside for Chris to return, still looking over the blueprints that the human left behind. She was making small pencil notes next to the 2nd design, the one that was suppoed to attach to the other machine. They were primarily calculation corrections, as some of the numbers seemed to be slightly off. But she put them in an area that wouldn't affect the design if Chris chose to ignore it. She looked up at Chris approaching with his machine. <"Wow, Stilzx would love to see this."> Candy gave a little bow, the pointed towards an area next to the residence that was well lit and easy to get to from inside. She then led Chris into the home and to the workplace.

Stilz was still busy trying to set up a human sized glove when Candy walked in with Chris. Stilz looked up with a smile, wires scattered everywhere and all over the little creature's body. "Well that was fast kupo. I'm almost finished kupo." Stilz finished hooking the odd glove to the main data wire, then began to attack smaller wires to the back. The glove looked to be made of a leather supstance with various sensor plates along the finger tips and palm of the glove. The main data wire was attached to the back of the glove, with mini wires trailing over the fingers and attaching to the sensors on the tips. Another similar wire ran along the side and attached to the larger sensor in the palm. The main data wire then trailed all the way to a monitor about 7 feet away, which had at least 2 computers hooked up to it. it also had what looked to be a small wall of glass between the computers and where Stilz was working, though it was quite obvious the glass was meant for protection.

Stilz finished making the final adjustements on the glove before turning to Chris. "Alright kupo. We're ready kupo." He held up the glove to Chris, then began to explain the process. "This device mesaures electricity kupo. Since electricity can already be measured I figured it would be the perfect way to analyze magic kupo, since a Lightning Materia generates electricity as the attack kupo. Once we can analyze the amount of electricity generated kupo, we can move on to analyze magic itself kupo." He then scurried over to the machines behind the glass wall and began to turn them on. He looked up at Chris with a smile. "All you need to do is cast a spell as weak as you can and progressively add more power till your max kupo."

It took them a few minutes after Chris had returned to fully prepare the testing machinery. Once they did, they showed Chris how to do the test. "This is a brand new Materia, so I can't guarantee a very wide data range." Chris said as a disclaimer before starting the test, "However, I'll see what I can do."

Chris set himself up for the gathering data. Chris started by finding the lowest possible amount of energy he could put it. That would define how much energy constituted a 'Standard Magic Energy Unit', which was apparently labelled 'MP' according to some sources. Chris slowly put energy into the Materia until it gave off a small spark, probably not much stronger than the kind generated by shuffling a foot on a rug and then touching a metal object with his finger.

Chris gauged his energy use as approximately 17% of what he normally used for a combat-grade casting of an elemental Materia, or one sixth as a fractional number. That meant that it was approximately six units for a 'full' cast. From there, he gradually stepped it up: Two units, generating a more substancial spark to the machine to receive and record. Three units, then four, then five, and finally a full six-unit cast.

"There. That's about as far as I can take this one." Chris said after the sixth, "So...what kind of numbers did we get?"

Stilz was too busy looking at the screen to notice what Chris was doing. Candy however was watching Chris the whole time, from behind the safety of the protective glass of course. She seemed interested in how Chris was slowly putting energy into the green stone, and how it glowed in reaction to said energy. Stilz however was watching the climb in electricity through the monitor. It wasn't much of a climb, but enough for him to see that Chris was doing as he asked.

When the electricity output leveled out, Stilz finally looked up in response to Chris's question. "Not too bad kupo. Not the numbers I want, but not bad kupo." He sat back with a sigh as he began to speak to Candy. <"The problem is at that level it can only power a lightbulb. Maybe more, but not enough for what I need."> <"Maybe you can configure the machine to detect magic. Then you might have a better idea of what it can power."> Stilz looked at Candy for a moment, then turned to the machine. He stared at the screen for a few moment before an idea began to form in his mind. He began to type on a keyboard that was nearby.

<"That might work...."> He seemed to finish with whatever he was doing, then hooked up a few more wires and looked up at Chris. "Sorry about that, but now we're going to try something a little different kupo. I want you to use the Materia again, but this time try to use it continually kupo. Keep putting your energy into it as long as you can, can you do that kupo?"

"Not quite what you were looking for, huh?" Chris said, "Maybe if this doesn't work out, I could refer you to one of my contacts. He's been wielding electricity for about as long, if not longer, than I have fire, my best element on hand." Chris said, then the Moogles came up with another suggestion, "Still, we'll see if this one works."

Chris focused on the Materia again, this time starting at full power and holding it there for as long as possible. Chris was able to maintain the 'stream' of electricity for around twenty-five seconds before running out of power. "Well...that seemed to go by rather quickly. At my level of proficency, it takes me about two seconds to charge it up to the amount needed to deliver an offensive-grade elemental projectile from my personal experience...so basically, I just burned through around twelve charges in less than a half of a minute. Hopefully that amplifier will be effective enough to sustain the supply for longer periods of time."

Stilz looked at the screen before him, typing away at a fast pace on the keyboard and making adjustments to the machine hooked up to the sensors. Candy was looking over his shoulder, making slight sounds that were actually helping him with the calculations. After the 30 seconds were up, Stilz slumped back and gave a sigh. He began to shake his arms awake, stretching them after spending a hard time at the keyboard. Candy just sat behind him, massaging his shoulders.

After a few second Stilz looked up at Chris with a sigh, but a smile. "Well I have good news and bad news kupo. The good news is that I think I found a way to measure what the energy used to power Materia is kupo. The bad news is that small burst you gave wasn't long enough for me to pin point the wave length and energy pattern kupo." He pushed a few keys on the keyboard to save what he found. "Unfortunately I'm not skilled enough to make a more complex machine, this one is pretty simple kupo. But I was able to get some good data kupo."

Stilz let out another sigh, then looked up at Chris. "Think you can try to do that again with some rest kupo. Or do you think we'll have to try again tomorrow kupo?" Candy looked up at Chris from where she was sitting with a smile. "If you want, you can stay here the night kupo. I'm not a bad cook, and you can take Stilz's hammock kupo." Stilz almost looked back at Candy with shock, but just smiled at Chris. If that's the sacrafice he had to make to learn more about Materia, so be it.

Chris looked towards Stilz as his arms were getting somewhat tired after doing all that number-crunching. Stilz then said that while he got some of the numbers he wanted, he didn't have enough to be able to replicate the energy.

"Yeah. Maybe with a full amount of energy, I'd be able to hold out a bit longer." Chris said, "Of course, I could also call my friend up. He knows quite a bit about machines and Magic as well." Chris then checked his cell phone for the time, "Besides, it's only around 12:30, so there's plenty of daytime left. Still, I haven't had lunch yet. Maybe a good meal will bring back some power...Probably not quite enough, though."

"And no, no need to give me his bed. I'll probably end up breaking it." Chris continued, "I'll just sleep on the floor, if there's enough room for that."

Stilz gave a nod, as Candy hovered in the air and headed out of the lab. She went over to the kitchen and began to prepare the meal, while Stilz remained in the lab with Chris. Stilz was looking over some of the data he found during the previous experiment, then glanced up at Chris. "I'm curious kupo. What kind of guy is your friend kupo? You said he was good at machines and magic right kupo? Do you think he could help kupo?"

Meanwhile, Candy was busy making a traditional human meal. Unlike most times when she'd prefer to make a Moogle style one, they had company at their house. And said company was a human, so she couldn't complain this time. Besides, Stilz was rather fond of her human style dishes. She made meat sandwhiches, sliced fruit, and freshly made lemonade. An easy meal, and one packed with plenty of energy according to Stilz's studies. She was about to bring it out to them, when she noticed the clock on the wall and the calender. Her pink fur turned slightly more white, and she made a break for the lab without the food.

"He is...brave, to say the least. Even by human standards, as this friend of mine is a Moogle as well." Chris said, "He and his friend get in and out of so many misadventures that all the fighting he gets into has made him quite experienced. He is, however, a bit easy to provoke, as I learned the hard way the first time we met."

Just then, Candy had returned in a bit of a hurry, and without any of the lunches on hand. Chris judged her expression as one of 'Oh crap, I forgot something important!'. That got Chris curious. "What happened?" Chris asked, "Something must have been urgent..."

"Hmm, I'll like to meet this friend of yours someday kupo." Stilz looked up at the huffing Moogle, not sure why she was in quite a rush. He gave her a few moments to catch her breath, and he fur returned to her normal pink color. <"Stilz, you need to meet with that Shinra employee in 10 minutes."> Stilz looked at her funny, then an expression of realization came to his face. Today was the day he gave them the improved 'Rat Radar', after they found out that his original idea was better. He gave a slight smirk, then turned and headed for another work bench nearby.

Stilz ruffled around on the bench for a few seconds, then held up a strange device. It looked sort of like a calculator with a really big screen, and a yellow gem impeded in the middle. Buttons lined the edges of the stone, and an antenna coming from the top. This 'Rat Radar Mark 2' was actually Stilz's original design, with a Libra Materia imbeded in the middle and hooked up to the sensors. He figured they might want this version, after the amount of time he spent in the sewers finding the rat's energy wave length. Some of the rats were a little bit bigger than to be expected, and others were beyond what was expected. At least this time those SOLDIER wannabes would be better prepared.

Stilz put the device into a bag and put on his gun. He knew that things got a bit troublesome in that end of town, and it was better to be prepared than sorry. He put the bag over his shoulder, then headed for the door. He stopped for a moment, then glanced back at Candy. <"I'm off. Take care of him until I return. Save lunch for me."> He then turned to Chris. "Sorry, I have a delivery to make kupo. I'll be back soon kupo." With that, he headed out the door. Candy stood there for a moment, watching him go. "I hope he'll be alright kupo."

"If have his number if you want it." Chris said, then Candy said something in the Moogle's native tounge (which Nex and Lini seemingly never used in his presence), then a few seconds later, Stilz pulled out some sort of Materia-run device, probably to identify certain creatures or detect their proximity. "Hmm...what kind of Materia runs this one?" Chris thought to himself, "I probably saw it in a store somewhere..." Then Stilz mentioned that the device needed to be delivered. "I can probably help you out with that..." Chris said, but by that time, Stilz had already headed out.

"Do you think he'll need help with that?" Chris asked Candy, "Even without Magic, I can defend myself and others reasonably well. Besides, I pretty much make a living doing deliveries and things like that." Chris waited to see if Candy was at any degree concerned that where the delivery was to be made was dangerous even for someone prepared of it.

Candy turned to Chris, waving her hands franticly like she was sorry he had to heard that. "Oh no, no, no, no kupo. I didn't mean to sound so concerned kupo. He's a very capable Moogle kupo." She then turned to look out the window at Sam flying through the air quickly. "I'm just worried about who he's going to see kupo. Both Sam and I know that Shinra isn't really trustworthy kupo. But they pay the most for his inventions kupo." She didn't seem to be able to shake the worried look on her face.

Stilz flew about 20ft. feet off the ground, and it was obvious he was in a hurry. Most of the people down on the ground either was familiar with the flying rodent, or were so depressed that they didn't care. Stilz kept a wary look on the ground as he flew. Occasionally an object would be flying from that direction, and while most times they missed Stilz didn't want to get hit. Mostly kids, or a few adults that are irritated or grumpy. Stilz hated living under the plates, but he was close to his parents and it was relatively safe. As long as the plates didn't fall. He continued to his destination at a quick pace, hoping to get there in time.

"Yeah. It's not exactly 'Screw the rules, we have money!', but more along the lines of 'We make the rules, we make the money'." Chris said, "And it's not like we're better off without them, and really, we're not. However, it's still for the best that we prepare ourselves for when something happens and something they did comes back to them and bites them hard. I've met quite a few people in my journeys who will forever remember what Shin-Ra put them through. Being twisted to the point where the only part that remains of what you were before is your appearance is hard to forget."

Chris gave a brief sigh, then said, "Shin-Ra has created quite a few monsters in its search for the ultimate soldier to protect them from their mistakes. Mistakes that they try to erase and hide from everyone else. However, they'll have to open up eventually. Either they'll find it no longer worth the effort to keep it concealed, or one will slip into the public eye, blowing open their coverup act."
