Candy's furn turned back to it's normal pink color, yet the more Chris spoke the whiter it became again. Her worried look became more and more apparent, and she began top fidget at the window. It was obvious that Chris pointing out Shinra's flaws was making Candy more and more nervous. "Maybe you should have gone with him kupo.

Stilz made it to the drop off point with less than a minute to spare. He was always supposed to be early, mostly to ensure that the informant wouldn't waste more time in the slums than normal. Stilz kept a close eye on the few people that traveled by, his hand ready on the Caster Gun at his side. Most people in this part of town knew better than to challenge the little Moogle, primarily because of the weapon he carried with him. But that didn't mean that those people would stop trying.

A few moments later a man in a trench coat showed up, the insignia of Shinra on his sleeve. He walked up to the little Moogle looking down like a towering giant. Stilz looked up, obviously not afraid as he waited for the riddle. "Go north and it becomes cool." "Head south and the same is true kupo." The man pulled out an envelope with a specialized card, and Stilz pulled out the device. They made the trade simultaneously, then parted ways. Stilz tucked the card inside his jacket, making a mental note to desposit the balance into his account before going home.

Chris could see Candy getting pale as he told his tale. "Yeah. It is worrying. However, this is probably only a single department that I'm truly worried about. The rest are probably more honestly concerned about the well-being of the people." Chris said, "Still, I'd have to wonder what was going in the minds of the guys who hired those responsible. Probably pride and greed."

Chris then shook his head before continuing, "And that's not mentioning all the other lunatics going around. A while ago, maybe a few months have passed by now, there was some sort of major event...I don't know if I should call it a rebellion or just a plain old organized attack, but a group of what I could describe as 'Winged Humanoids' ambushed a highly-protected Shin-Ra shipment and stole the package they were delivering. We managed to retrieved it...I say 'We' because I helped out with the retrieval, but anyway, the leader of this group managed to open the container...and I'll just say that it's a good example of what happens when you get too deep into Shin-Ra's business. Not pretty at all. It's partially the reason why my plane is in the condition it's in now...One of the others in the group fighting him had to crash it into him to disable him long enough for another one of the others to deliver the killing strike."

Candy's fur became ghostly white as Chris continued with the story, and she obviously began to shake as she watched the window. A few minute later the door opened, and a voice could be heard coming in. <"I'm back."> In a flash of white fur, Stilz was tackled to the ground by Candy who rushed to him in a hug.

They tumbled around until Stilz finally got to a point to stop their movement, Candy crying all the time. <"Woah, what's wrong?"> All Stilz got out of Candy through the tears were 'Shinra' 'dead' 'danger' and 'Chris'. Stilz held Candy until she calmed down a bit, then pushed her so he could look in her eyes. <"Look, I'm alright. I made them promise, remember?"> Candy sniffed a bit. <"B-but Chris said."> Stilz shook his head. <"Who's the toughest Moogle in Midgar?"> Candy smiled at this, then let Stilz get up.

Both came back into the lab, Stilz tossing the now empty card into the trash. He motioned to the kitchen, where the food was obviously let. "How about you bring the food Candy kupo? I'm starving kupo." Candy smiled, then left for the kitchen. Stilz turned to Chris, a serious look on his face. "I'm thankful for you help, but I ask a small favor kupo. Please don't scare Candy anymore with tales of Shinra kupo. I'm familiar with some of their projects, and I know how they work kupo. I've taken measures to ensure some of my more questionable projects for them aren't used against humans or Moogles kupo. Candy is familiar with it too, thought she does worry kupo. Just please, if you're that worried then next time keep your mouth shut or follow me on the delivery kupo." Candy came in right then, and Stilz smiled at her. He sat down as Candy began to set out the food.

"Yeah. The fact that the storyteller is twice the height of the listener adds another, even scarier factor to it, as if it was a prophesy of impending judgement." Chris said, "I shall speak of this subject no more, since that's pretty much all of the darker side that I've been exposed to...for now. When there isn't something as major as that event going on, most of those who do field work for Shin-Ra are actually not all that bad to hang around with."

Chris then sat down at one side of the table once lunch was served. "Yeah. I wanted to join you in the delivery, but you went off before I could ask you if I was allowed to." Chris said, "Maybe in the future, when I'm around, I can help out. However, I do tend to wander about, and I'm usually in the other continent, if only for the Gold Saucer. Even though it was just recently built, and only a few things are on it at the moment, it's already attracted a LOT of people."

Chris then took a big bite out of his sandwich, then after chewing what he had bit off, continued, "The main attraction there seems to be the Battle Arena, which is relatively self-explanitory: Two fighters square off in a one-on-one duel. The winner gets a number of points that can be traded in for prizes. The loser...still gets points, but not as many as the winner. To make things interesting, the fighters are given various handicaps most of the time, ranging from being locked out of using Magic, to having to fight at only half endurance. From who I've faced, two that would probably take down most opponents if the handicaps aren't stopping them are Riku and Lini. Riku...let's just say that he intentionally holds back because few can match his speed. Lini may only just now be finding out how much physical strength he has." Chris then loosely gripped his right arm, then continued, "I took what was probably my worst combat injury so far against him. Fortunately, I had restorative magic on me at that point, so I could fix it to at least usability on the spot."

"The Battle Arena kupo? Sounds like something Sam would be interested in, right Candy kupo?" Candy gave a nod, as her mouth was full of soup at the time. Stilz took a quick bite of the sandwich, then turned back to Chris. "Like you said kupo. Not everyone in Shinra is bad kupo. Sam is a new SOLDIER, and we've known him for over a year kupo." "Even if he didn't join Shinra on the best of terms, he's still a good guy kupo."

Stilz got suddenly quiet at Candy's words, and Candy immedietly shut up at the sight. Stilz gave a sigh, then looked from Candy to Chris. He didn't really want to say anything, but leaving it like that was just as bad. "Sam joined SOLDIER just recently, against his parent's wishes kupo. Soon after, his parents were killed in their home kupo. Most likely Shinra's work after finding out about them kupo. All of Sam's possessions, everything his family owned, has been siezed by Shinra kupo. And Sam stays as a SOLDIER, with a vow to take them out from the inside kupo."

Candy finished her food quickly and quietly, then began to gather the dishes no longer in use. Stilz finished eating and sat back relaxed. "In a way, I hope to help with my machines kupo. That's why I'm planning on building the ultimate weapon kupo. And with your help, I might be able to do that kupo." Stilz pulled out the blueprints he had before. "The first problem is that all machines require fuel to function kupo. Run out of fuel, and the machine is useless kupo. I'm sure you know this with your plane kupo." He pulled the Materia Engine to the top. "If we can create a machine that doesn't need fuel, then we'll be one step closer to creating the ultimate machine kupo. And I think Materia is the answer kupo."

"Yeah. I wouldn't be too surprised if Shin-Ra DID send someone out to do that." Chris said, "Particularly if Sam's family had a lot of possessions." Chris then gulped down his lemonade, then took the conversation on a different subject, "Oh, that 'ultimate machine' idea kinda reminds me...I have a machine-oriented project of my own. Basically, me and my teammates each have their own machine, which we've designed to link together to form one much larger and more powerful machine, so that we can take on and take down monsters that are too big to plausibly fight off on foot. Like that one dragon that nearly reached Kalm several months back. Of course, back then, I couldn't do too much for damage...I still can't, really. My friend Nex was at about my current level in terms of magic skill back then. Now...I wouldn't be too surprised if he's gone up to maybe 5 times that by now."

Chris then pulled out his cell phone, then said, "Maybe whenever you need my services or whatever, you can call me on my cell phone. I also have Nex's number if you want it."

Stilz gave a nod and took down Chris's number. He didn't really feel comfortable about taking a fellow Moogle's number, especially if neither Moogle knew each other. But Chris was a nice guy, and Stilz was sure he'd need the young warrior in the future. He put the number in his phone and smiled. "Tell me more about this ultimate machine kupo. I assume you accounted for extra weight and an issue with speed kupo?"

Stilz gave a smile, then pulled out a different design. This one showed a large barreled cannon cut in half to show the inside. The Electric Energy Converter as well as the Energy Amplifier were hooked up along the top, with two holes in the middle of the cannon linked to the Energy Amplifier. Along the sides of the blueprints were various mathematics and calculations in Candy's handwriting. The very top housed two large words that described the entire diagram. 'Materia Cannon'

"This is my desire kupo. To make a machine that can support this bad boy and able to move it with ease kupo. But the first problem is making an engine that has no limit on fuel kupo. That's where you've been helping me kupo." He waves at the machine, then turned to Chris. "If I can find out the energy needed to use a Materia, I'll eventually be able to make a machine that can cast magical effects kupo. That in my opinion is the ultimate machine kupo."

"Yeah. I've been asked that before." Chris said on the subject of whether he had accounted for the weight of Nex's machine, "I have it set that it doesn't use a lot of its power carrying itself. I wonder if I should have some boosters somewhere so that it doesn't have much trouble carrying that weight. I don't have all the details, but I'd rather have some margin for error or degradation."

Then Stilz showed another one of his plans. It was basically a big energy cannon. Chris gave a whistle, then said, "Yeah. That's a big one alright. Not something you'd put on a smaller machine. However, I can actually see something like that, or at least a smaller-scale version of it, where I plan to put a missile launcher on my machine. Unless you use some heavy material like Adamantium to build it, it actually won't be too hard to install it on a 'mid-sized' machine. That is, something a foot and a half taller than I am for something that stands and walks somewhat like I do."

Stilz looked at the design a little, listening to Chris's suggestions. It was true, the size that Stilz was using it for was pretty massive. So a very large machine would have to wield it. "I see kupo. You're right, the cannon itself is pretty large kupo. Maybe....kupo." Stilz took out a correction pencil and began to make a few modifications. It was scaled down a bit, about half Chris's size. At most it looked like a cannon that the city of Juno used in the pictures that Stilz saw. Only this was a much smaller version.

"And that kupo. Now we just need to figure out the energy source kupo." Stilz looked over to see if Chris was ready to try and continue. "If you think you can try a few more times, I think we might find the wave length by the end of the day kupo." He gave a smile, though he knew that Chris was still most likely drained from the last try. But Stilz was excited, and wanted to get his machine off the ground as soon as possible. He gave a grin, hoping that Candy's food was enough to give some sort of boost.

Stilz made a few modifications to the design based on Chris's comments, then showed the modified design. The new design was definitely smaller-scale, down from longer than he was tall to around three feet in length. Chris made a mental image of what it would be like installed on Nex's machine. Chris didn't see too many problems with it. It wasn't so long that it would drag on the ground as the machine was moving, which would be one of the bigger concerns with it.

"Looks pretty good." Chris said as he inspected the machine, "Even if it seems like it would be a long time before the design is realized, but having a long-term goal to shoot for will help...However, to get to that goal, you need to set a few checkpoints as well." Then Stilz mentioned that he's close to replicating the energy pattern used for running Magic Materia, "I wish I could, but I'm mostly tapped out for today...and the store for adventurer's supplies in this town doesn't stock Ethers. Maybe I can get a few seconds more out of it with that meal, if it's all you need." Chris then readied the Thunder Materia and waited to see if Stilz needed only a couple of more seconds.

Stilz shook his head, motioning for Kurisu to wait. "It's a good thing the shop doesn't sell Ethers kupo. You already spent a lot on getting the Thunder Materia for this experiment kupo, you don't need to be buying more kupo." He motioned to the machine with the glove hooked up to it. "Give me a moment to get the machine hooked up, then we can try again." He began to fiddle with the various switches and butons on the machine itself, then began to type on the computer.

Stilz started with a new program, this one on the higher end of the wave length spectrum. He kept the old file saved both on the computer and on a cd that he just burned. This test was to see if the energy for using a Materia was on a higher wave length than he anticipated, and if it was it would give him a better chance of finding it. A few seconds weren't enough to complete the experiment, but Stilz didn't care. He was too excited to even think about it. He gave Chris the thumbs up sign, though it was probably hard for the human to see his thumbs.

"Yeah. I don't want to blow everything I've earned for today on this." Chris said, "However, the Materia cost me about the price of 'only' two Ethers. Those single-use items are not cheap at all." Chris then watched as Stilz got the recording machine ready, then signaled that it was ready to go. Same procedure on his end as last time: Pour all available Magic power into the Materia and sustain a flow of electricity from it to the device for as long as possible.

Chris managed to squeeze out a little under seven seconds of power before being unable to continue. Chris dropped to one knee for a second afterwards, then said, "Yeah, that's all I can do for today. I should get some rest, even if it's only one in the afternoon. Maybe a couple of hours will do." Chris then dropped to the floor, not even bothering to find a 'comfortable' place to rest.

((And that's all on my end.))

Stilz began to run several command through the keyboard during the full seven seconds. He was scanning the lines of code for anything that showed what he was looking for, becoming more and more eager the closer he got to his goal. However, right before he locked onto the exact wave length the energy stopped, and Chris fell to the floor. Stilz pushed two keys to auto save the data before rushing to Chris's side. He kneeled by the exhausted human, checking to make sure he was still alvie. Candy was right by on the other side, looking worriedly at Stilz.

<"He's alright. He's just tired."> Candy looked up at Stilz and scowled. <"Of course he's tired. You had him use his energy twice. All of it. I wonder why he put up with it."> Stilz just gave a shrug, reaching under to pick up the young human. He strained for a moment before Candy got the message to help. The big guy was heavy. <"Let's get him to the bedroom. Get a mat ready while I cary him.">

Candy flew off while Stilz struggled to lift the young warrior. If he actually trained like the human did, it might have been a piece of cake for Stilz. And the stories he heard of this 'Nex' character, he was a Moogle with some real power. How would Stilz measure up to that? With obvious grunts, Stilz managed to make it through the door into the normal residential part of the house where Candy was finishing up preperations. Stilz laid the human on the mat and pillow, then let out a sigh of relief. He needed a nap now. Both he and Candy flew up to the two hammocks hanging from the walls, then lay down for an afternoon nap.
