Day one: SOLDIER HQ SOLDIER's Headquarters had the ever permanent buzz that seemed to constantly fill the place. It was always busy. Night...Day...Holidays...It didn't matter. Someone was always working, and to tell the truth, if Jackie had orders right now, she would be inclined to believe such a thing herself. She was having a hard time finding something to do...she could always visit her team mate from what was formerly the Dorado group. Dorado Group had since been redefined. Since the last mission, it was reformed as a Tactical squad with Commander Orph as its current leader. Its main purpose was to give support to other units as they required it. This would Jackie's Third mission as a member of Dorado Group, and her third mission as the only re-occurring member of the aforementioned team. Commander Orph wasn't really a member of Dorado group, though he was the one who gave the orders. Jackie shook her head as she looked at her tab...she wasn't sure how she came to owe so much money but worse things had happened to her. She looked at her two beloved guns in horror, as she knew she was being forced to sell one. 'we've spent a lot of time together...but you weren't ever really mine...' She mentally told the first gun she had ever carried. She sighed placed the weapon on the counter of the HQ store, and exchanged the gun for gil. Jackie walked back with a pocket of gil...but with one less gun, and an aching heart. She really loved her guns... She made her way to the Rec. Room. It was a place that was typically empty, but to tell the truth...with everyone as busy as they always were... It kind of made sense that the Rec. Room was unused most of the time. She opened the fridge and pulled out some fruit juice, sat down in the love seat, and pulled out her gun cleaning kit. She took a sip of the juice before putting the bottle on the stand next to the seat and opening her kit. She pulled out the oily rag and poured some more polish on it. She ran the rag down the length of the barrel...not only did the barrel have to be clean on the inside, but the outside was very important too. Edited by Tada!, Jul 2 2009, 10:41 PM.

"Korri, we have bad news," The Turk had sad, "You're daughter is dead." The words had echoed in his head for what seemed like hours. Truthfully, it had been several hours since the meeting between the SOLDIER and his superiors. He knew there was nothing left for him to do, but he still cried anyway. As he sat in the recreation room, he could see his daughter's face through his swollen eyes. The thought of her not being able to return to him made the SOLDIER want to cry more but he was running out of tears. How will I tell her mother? What about the family? I knew I should have considered exile, he thought. None of those in the small remnants of his family would accept the fact that he had let terrorists kidnap and kill his daughter. That would show that after all the training and discipline was for not. Nothing changes, I'm the same failure I was before. Korii sat up in his chair, staring down at the files before him. They were schematics, blueprints to the series of warehouses that were being used by AVALANCHE agents to smuggle their terrorist equipment. Though there were droplets of liquid tears that blotched the colors on the papers, Korii could still make out the facts before him. The job was meant to be undertaken by a strike force of several Sentry squadrons and overseen by at least a pair of SOLDIERs or Turks. But that's not going to happen. Korii's assignment was simple. Take another SOLDIER of equal rank and skill and secure the site. He snorted in disgust as he thought about how Shin-Ra was handling the threat of terrorism against their operations. While one may have expected the officials to dealt harshly, and secured their assets and then take on the organization full force. With the might that Shin-Ra possessed with SOLDIER, Sentry, the Turks, and the research scientists, they could squash the terrorists like the pests they were. Korii knew that this would probably never happen. The company was ran by a council of members, executives that would not agree to spending their money on taking action on something that was not a larger nuisance. What they were dealing with a metaphorical gnat at a barbecue. It was bugging the fuck out of everyone but what was the point of chasing it when the only weapon you could kill it with was a bazooka? Overkill, if you ask me. Korii looked up as the door to the room opened. What walked in could only be described as a "unique specimen." Normal men were attracted by the voluptuous but he was not most men. From what he saw of her attire, she was an agent not far from his own caliber of SOLDIER. But what caught him by surprise was that she did not hold a sword at her side, but what appeared to be a giant gun of sorts. While that did cause some speculations about her character, Korii was back on her looks. The oddly highlighted hair, the scar across her throat...What an odd agent indeed. The SOLDIER smirked. If that is a rifle, she may come in handy after all. With that he pulled his cell phone from his pocket and started the text messaging application. I think I found us a second for the job. Jackie put her rag down for the time being, and she pulled out what looked like a long rod. This was what was known as a Ram rod. Not that most SOLDIERs here would know that, being all sword users and all. She set that on her knee while she opened up the feed ramp, pulled out a bullet and pulled the trigger of the rifle. There was click sound as the hammer came down. She pressed a lever and pulled out the bolt and set that aside her fruit juice. From there she picked up the ram rod and put a small cloth through the eye, she pulled out a case of chemicals and dipped the cloth into it. She then pulled it out of the vial and pushed the cloth down the barrel. Jackie was the diligent kind though, some people would do this one or two times, but Jackie repeated this process until her cloth came out clean from the barrel. This wasn't dedication to her, this was just how it should be done. She folded the ram rod up and put it, the pieces of cloth, and the cleaning chemicals back into her gun cleaning kit. From there she grabbed her rag and dipped some gun oil on it. She began to wipe down the mithril of her gun. She took special care of the engraving on the side that said "MARKUS SWORD". After she had finished with the gun oil she pulled out another cloth and wiped down the wooden parts of the gun. She polished the wood with a sweat resistant, and then dried it with another cloth. She started putting her cloth and her cleaning agents away, but before she put her last cloth away she wiped her scope clean with a dry corner. She zipped the cleaning kit up, and was about to fit the bolt back into the rifle. Her Cell Phone vibrated. She flipped it open and read the text : "From Commander Orph: Temporary reassignment from Dorado group. Orders: Provide Tactical and Leadership support. Details will be given by your team mates, meet them in the rec. rm" She flipped the phone closed and slipped into a pocket on the side of her leg, and went back to putting the bolt back into the rifle. She fitted it, then slid it back in until the lever locked into place. Clicked. She pulled the bolt back and pulled the trigger. Click. She popped the feeding ramp open and then slipped a bullet inside. She slid the bolt closed. Click. The next sound this gun made would be, 'bang'. Jackie looked up from her work and around the Rec. Room. There was only one person here ~ "Are you...?" She began to question the man, Korri, concerning her new mission. |

Korii watched the the woman started to pack up her belongings. First the bag containing her cleaning supplies was zipped up, but as she leaned forward towards the rifle, the SOLDIER heard a small buzzing sound. If the room had not been silent, the sound would have probably not been audible. As she grasped what appeared to be a phone, Korii watched her eyes scan the screen. Probably a text message, he thought. Shin-Ra agents were accustom to getting messages in that form especially because they didn't have to waste time on the phone discussing unnecessary detail. He could not see it, but her facial expressions barely changed. Either she's just an emotionless bitch or it is about a mission. Korii guessed the latter, not the former. As the woman flipped the phone shut, she started a series of actions that would consist of several 'clicking' noises and ending with the rifle ready to be fired. As she finished, Korii watched her gaze turn to him. They were indeed the only two in the recreation room and conversation was inevitable. Luckily his eyes were now dry of their once-present tears. Her lips started to form words, but he would end up cutting her off before she could finish. "Are you...?" "A man? I believe so, let me check." He snorted. His sharp response was half-playful and half-sarcasm, so in it's fullest nature, Korii could not help but smile at his own joke. Whenever his mood hit a certain low, the SOLDIER was known to resort to humor. It had been his belief that lightening the mood would rectify the situation he was in someway. Sadly, the only thing that this managed to do was increase the rage building within. Though it would not be visible on the surface, Korii could not be more upset. Shin-Ra has failed me, my future is falling to pieces, what is next for me...? He thought, staring upwards into the girl's Mako-infused eyes. "I'm guessing you're a SOLDIER like myself?" He questioned her, countering her rather pointless question with one even more ridiculous than her own. He rose, allowing his katana to fall in along his side. Most members of SOLDIER had found themselves accustomed to larger melee weapons, but Korii enjoyed the simple touch of the sharpest katana. In truth, he longed for hand to hand combat. It had always been something that he took part in since he was training as a child. Martial arts in the truest form is what he called it. "Name's Korii, but you can call me Draven." |

'Oh, A smart alleck huh? Fine...I can deal with that.' Jackie gave a small smile out of politeness. 'For how much longer, I wonder?' she added mentally. She looked him over for the time being...he was definitely a SOLDIER. The tell tale sign...the eyes and sword pretty much said it all for her. They made eye contact, and Korii asked her if she was a SOLDIER. She was kind of annoyed by this since they were in a SOLDIER HQ after all. Asking someone if they were a SOLDIER in such a place was almost useless. "3rd Class." Jackie answered. She figured that this guy hadn't been with SOLDIER long...actually then again...Kyosuke acted the same way, and he was a 2nd Class...well Kyosuke was more straight forward and less Sarcastic..but if you twisted the personality traits around you'd eventually be able to get one out of the other...she nodded silently to herself...yes she could see how that would work out and all. 'Its not my job to figure out my team mates anyways...All I have to do is work with him, Its not like I was ordered to fall in love with the guy. Besides, with his melee weapon...I'm sure we'll be able to compliment each other on the basis of our range. I have long, he has short. ' 'Then again, his style with his katana might be something I can't work with...There are many different kinds of fighting styles, but for the most part, Sniping is always the same. I just need a clean shot. If his style interferes too much with that I won't be able to help him with any combatants he engages. I could always apply support before he engages. Cover fire isn't something that should be underrated after all...' Jackie looked at the man who had finally introduced himself. His name was Korii name. Now she could call him by his name...or by Draven. "My name is Jackie." If he had heard anything about her at all he would know her annoying nickname given to her by Dorado Group. Copter bait. It was because during the fight with Daze she got hit by helicopter after she had just jumped out of it. When it happened and when she almost died from it, it wasn't something to laugh about, but seriously! After she had recovered there was no end to mocking. 'copter bait' They would call her. Because The Helicopter seemed to fall straight for her. >.< Jackie shook her head and let the memory die off. "Right..so...are you the one I'm doing the mission with?" She questioned. This was the question she wanted to ask early, but he decided it would be funnier to fill in the blanks. |

"My name is Jackie. Right..so...are you the one I'm doing the mission with?" She had responded. The woman had a slight smile on her face, which made Korii feel slightly better. He did not know what it was about a woman's touch, but its gentle, soft embrace was enough to pull him out of whatever trance ailed him. There was little he could do but return her smile and answer her own question. I find myself extremely interested in this woman. She has character, something I find few woman containing that genuine feeling. Korii moved his arms to his hips, holding his clothing and katana in place around him. He let the smile fade from his lips so he could finally speak to Jackie, Shame, she doesn't have a better nickname. He didn't know much about the other SOLDIERs in the headquarters, but it was apparently she was known for having a helicopter of sorts fall on her. While he was sure this was a joke or maybe behavior called up by their immaturity and response to her not paying them any attention, he didn't know or care. Now was time for them to get to business. And no matter what mood he had been in prior, Korii was going to focus on the task at hand. He moved his right hand from off his hip and pointed at the papers he had spread out on the table. They were all he had on the mission and from what he had been told it would be all he needed. It was in that moment again that his cell phone started to vibrate in his pocket. Moving his left hand, he grasped the device and slide it open. The message he read spelled out the rest of what he would need to know. Can't spend time gathering extra units. A convoy is preparing to leave the warehouse. Copter leaves in 15 minutes. Korii mumbled idle curses under his breath. Hopefully Jackie would not have to hear his disdain for his handlers at the moment. "Anyway, these are our objectives." His fingers moved from a picture of several marked trucks and a large warehouse hidden amongst the rocky mountain road. "There is a convoy preparing to leave, what Shin-Ra wants is us to lay waste to this place. And unfortunately, we aren't important enough for air support and more units. So it's just you and me, hopefully you can deal with that." He smirked, knowing that her personal preferences meant nothing in the long run. They were SOLDIERs, it was in the job description to battle against the odds to get the will of Shin-Ra completed. Korii had braved that twisted world for some time and hopefully Jackie was competent enough to know that they would have to tread through it for one more mission. This mission. Two third-class SOLDIERs. What is Shin-Ra allocating its other troops for? It probably had something to do with the large-scale mission that failed several months ago. While details had been sworn silent, Korii had found out enough to know whatever it was, Shin-Ra wanted it back. Though he never paid attention enough to know if they had.Eh, it's not important anyway. My mission is to safely guide this girl and myself into the Corel Mountans and demolish these fucking people. "I hope you are ready, our transport leaves in like ten minutes." |

Jackie followed the point of his finger towards the files on the table. She gathered them up and began to look over them. 'This is the enemy? What are they smuggling that Shinra wants them to be destroyed? I wonder what are in these trucks...Just general smuggling? I imagine that these guys must be supplying AVALANCHE with supplies or something, other wise this wouldn't be such a big deal.' She flipped through the pictures and took note especially of the locations that would be effective for sniping. 'I'm pretty sure I could make a shot from here. We might need to meet them a little bit down the road. Hopefully the area is more mountainous down the road...those TURK bastards didn't do a good enough job with these photos for me.' She sighed as she examined the trucks, I could probably eliminate the first truck with a bullet to the engine. That would stop the entire convoy, and then Korii here could clean up, and I'll keep him covered. Jackie nodded to Korii as he explained their objectives for this mission. She put out a chuckle at Korii's comment. "Typical of Shinra" Scoffed Jackie concerning the unimportance of her and pretty much every other SOLDIER. If Shinra had its way, then even the First class SOLDIERs would be doing manual labor just to save money. "They want us to take this stuff out but don't send any support...It makes me wonder how bad they really want this job done?" Jackie shook the thought away, "I can deal with it, I figure it won't take much to stop the convoy. If the lead truck is damaged the whole train will shut down." She looked down at the papers one last time as she was informed that the Helicopter was leaving soon. She quickly checked the mission files and figured out which Helipad they were supposed to be using. 'Great...another helicopter...' She thought after she nodded to Korii. "Pfft...We better gun it then." She told him, quickly making her way out the door and down the hall. She went up stairs towards the roof and waited for Korii to get to the helicopter. "Oh...one more thing before we leave: Starting now, the only thing I care about is completing this mission." She told him. He probably would not ever be able to understand her reasons for such behavior. It went way back into her history. She recalled all the things that had lead up her to this point. 'Because I've been given much, I too must give. My soul is practically owned by Shinra. They've saved my life too many times for me to betray them. Saved my life too many times for me to even question their slightest order... Almost... Almost.' |

"Oh...one more thing before we leave: Starting now, the only thing I care about is completing this mission." He let her words echo in his head for a moment. Her attitude would constitute the correct approach for their business. Those coworkers that found themselves mixing business and pleasure were soon to end up in body bags. This fate had become something that Korii strove to stay away from. Moving across the helicopter's tight quarters, he sat in silence. Their journey would last anywhere from fifteen to thirty minutes. In their intelligence report had been correct, the convoy would be en route to their destination. That'll be the perfect time to strike. The SOLDIER smirked at his counterpart before looking back out into the afternoon sunlight. This broad's got it all figured out, eh? All business. Straight cold, hard math. He reached into his vest pocket, pulling out first a cigarette, and then with his other hand a lighter. Pushing the cylindrical instrument between his teeth, he grinned as he struck the mechanism. First a spark which ignited into flame, Korii moved the flame towards his cigarette, slowly inhaling to start the burn. He returned the lighter to his pocket, then pulled the cigarette from his lips. He breathed into the air, producing a cloud of thin smoke. His eyes had narrowed, allowing him to concentrate his gaze on the valley below. There was nothing but green before they would come to the Corel Mountain range. The range itself was gray and full of hidden locations that were said to be used by mercenaries and those criminal types. Korii still hovered in the shadow of the helicopter, only his cigarette in the daylight. We should be there soon, I hope. With his free hand, the SOLDIER patted his sheathed katana. The blade had been sharpened early, but still, he didn't plan on using it. He was sure they had guns, but if they were distracted by her sniper rifle and the Shin-Ra helicopter, he would be able to take them out from closer range. If that wasn't the case, he would be forced to use the sword. I hope not, I hate the sight of severed limbs. "Almost there." He murmured to himself as he saw the distance to the mountains had closed dramatically. He turn to her, taking in the final "drag" of the cigarette before discarding it out the sliding barrier of the helicopter. "I got one rule chica: You shot, you shot to kill. So I suggest you aim to please..." His eyes narrowed, shining a glint of Mako-green across the helicopter, "And don't miss." |

Jackie boarded the helicopter and strapped herself in for the long journey. She looked out the window and watched Midgar shrink into the distance... she shook her head and thought for a moment concerning the irratating sound of helicopter blades that she would always consider a sound that sounded pretty close to what it sounded like when you die. 'Maybe getting hit by a helicopter has...Well...just a little. I wouldn't say it gave me some long lasting phobia that would haunt and torment me for the rest of my life...Besides, Reno was an ass of a copter pilot...some great pilot he was.' She smirked to herself and looked at the floor. She watched her foot as she tapped it impatiently. 'Mom used to say that if you fell asleep on a long journey that you could time travel. So that when you woke up you would already be there. I used to believe that was true. Now I know better, but still...I might as well put up for some time traveling haha.' Jackie closed her eyes and slept...she was silent for most of the trip, and only really woke up when Korii decided to mention that they were almost there. She opened her eyes, she was a little groggy from being asleep, but a quick wipe soon got her back on her game. She coupled her hands together and stretched, "Concerns about being shot?" She chuckled as she let out a large sigh. She stretched her legs out and then grabbed her rifle and patted it. "This rifle is Accurate up to six miles. With that kind of range, I've had a lot of practice shooting out of helicopters." She pulled herself free of her restraints and set herself up at the 'barrier'. She pulled a strap down around her waist and leaned out the side of the helicopter. She lifted up her gun and searched for the smuggler caravan. She followed a line of trucks she saw on the ground...they matched the markings of the ones they were looking for. All She had to do was take out the first truck. The way this road was set up would make it hard to pass a burning truck in the middle of the road. "Bang." Jackie pulled the trigger and a large beam of white light fired out of her gun. This was the result of the bahamut Breath shell she had inside of the rifle. She watched through the scope as the bullet effectively decomissioned the lead truck. She pulled herself back into the helicopter. "I think we still have a couple of minutes until we drop..." She popped the bolt open and a steaming hot shell flew out and onto the floor. "I'd like to think I"m a pretty good shot." she told Korii popping a normal bullet into the chamber. |

"Concerns about being shot?" Korii snorted at the thought. He was not going to be hit by a stray bullet, unless she wanted him to be. And from the attitude that was being displayed, he could not decide if she was flirting or was it genuine sarcasm over the fact he may not be good enough. "This rifle is accurate up to six miles. With that kind of range, I've had a lot of practice shooting out of helicopters. Even though they were several miles out, he knew that the range of her rifle was just as pinpoint as she was claiming. He watched Jackie move into position and prepared to take her shot. Jackie pulled the trigger, and to Korii's astonishment, a large beam of white light fired towards into the cloud of smoke in the distance. "I think we still have a couple of minutes until we drop...I'd like to think I"m a pretty good shot." She told Korii popping a normal bullet into the chamber. The SOLDIER smirked as he looked at his katana. "Don't think, KNOW." He said as he moved to grasp the sliding barrier that separated himself from the outside air. The helicopter was moving into location over their drop zone, a manuever signified by the blinking green light above them. Korii turned to his companion, smirking with malice intent. He knew what he planned to do to his foes, but would she care how heartless he would be in doing so. Bracing himself for a moment in a runner's stance, Korii jumped forward, his body in midair, heading out of the helicopter. He did not know if the other SOLDIER was going to follow or snipe her targets from the safety of the chopper or not. But he did know that whatever she decided would be a count on her character. If she stayed in the helicopter, she was a pussy, not a real warrior but one scared of combat in its truest natures. If she followed suit and attacked from the ground with him, she would at least get a portion of his respect, since she would at least be within range of getting fired upon. |
